Listen to Obituary

Rosalie Lillian Holmes Ottaway, age 86, of Riverton, UT, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. She was born on October 23, 1939, in San Diego, CA, to Robert E Hervey and Evelyn L Messer. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Wallace M Holmes, Jr., of Barnstable, MA.

Rosalie married Jerry G Warner of Moundsville, WV, on August 26, 1957, in Phoenix, AZ. Together they welcomed their daughter, Cassandra, and their son, Jerry II, before later divorcing. On May 26, 1990, she married Donald G Ottaway of Alliance, NE, in Salt Lake City, UT. Rosalie was preceded in death by both her husbands. In a poignant turn of fate, her mother, Evelyn, passed away just five hours before Rosalie on the same day.

Rosalie lived a rich and adventurous life. She was raised by her grandmother, Alma G Baker of San Diego, CA, for the first 15 years of her life. At age 16, she moved to Anchorage, AK, to reunite with her mother, Evelyn, her adopted father, Wallace, and her brother. Through her marriage to Jerry, she experienced life across the United States and Germany during his military service. Following her divorce, she made homes in Kansas, California, Utah, and Washington before finally settling in Riverton, UT. After retirement, Rosalie and Donald spent several years traveling across the country in their motor home with her parents. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rosalie was especially beloved by her children and grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. She was known above all for her compassionate heart—often giving of herself selflessly—always striving to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. This enduring kindness is how she will be remembered most.

Rosalie is survived by her children, Cassandra Warner of West Valley City, UT, and Jerry Warner of Riverton, UT, and her grandchildren, Holly Axtell of St George, UT, Jacob Axtell of West Valley City, UT, and Amelia Axtell of West Valley City, UT.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary, located at 3699 West 12600 South in Riverton, UT. Interment will follow immediately at Larkin Sunset Gardens' new mausoleum, located at 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy, UT. A graveside service will be held where family and friends are warmly invited to share memories and offer words of remembrance.
