Russell House Hutchins

1938 ~ 2021

Russell House Hutchins passed away peacefully on August 11, 2021, at his home in Sandy, Utah, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Russ was born in Oakland, California, on August 7, 1938, the youngest of three children to Ralph and Evelyn Hutchins.

He was a championship swimmer and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1956 and from San Francisco State in Business Management in 1962. He worked his entire career at Pacific Bell.

Russ married his high school sweetheart, Joan Hoffman, on August 10, 1957, and was happily married for 64 years. Russ and Joan raised three children in the San Francisco Bay area and Millington, New Jersey. Rick (Charlotte), Gayla (Carl) Blades, and Joanell. Russ and Joan have ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He had a lifelong love for his family. He loved aviation and even considered being a pilot. He built and raced dune buggies for a time, enjoyed golf, and reading history books. He was a scoutmaster in both California and New Jersey and helped many young men earn their Eagle Scout.

Russ was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after joining the church in 1971.

He will be remembered for his kindness and example of compassion toward those he served as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, faithful home teacher, and friend.

Russ loved researching family history and doing temple work during his 30-year retirement. His favorite place to visit was the Master’s Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia- he traveled there four times with family and friends. We will miss him but are comforted to know he is with God. Russ is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be held in the fall of 2021. Condolences can be sent to the family at Larkinmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.

Guestbook/Condolences

From the day I married Rick in 1981, Rick’s Dad has made me feel a part of the family like a daughter. We call him GPA Russ as our children and grandchildren do, but he’s always been Dad to me in my heart. Love and miss you forever!
