Ruth Stone Nielsen was born on Oct. 26, 1925, to Claude V Stone and Mary J. Stone in San Francisco, California. At a young age, the family moved to Salt Lake City where she and her younger sister, Irene, grew up. They attended school and had a very happy childhood there, both graduating from West High School. After graduation from high school, she went to work at Utah Oil as a secretary to the president.

She then met and fell in love and married Keith Edward Nielsen, who had just returned home from the Army Air Corps. They were married in Salt Lake City on Sept. 26, 1947. They welcomed baby daughters Kristin in 1951, and Kitrina in 1957. Both daughters were adored and loved immensely by their parents.

As a family, their vacations were always spent camping, fishing, and traveling to Denver to visit relatives. As the girls grew and found interests of their own, Ruth and Keith spent their free time traveling in the western U.S. in their motorhome with friends and pheasant hunting in Idaho with Owen and Irene.

Ruth started working at Valley Mental Health around 1980 as a secretary. After Keith’s unexpected death in 1983, Ruth, who was not one to sit still, decided she was going to get her real estate agent’s license. While at Valley Mental Health, wanting to become an R.N., she enrolled in nursing school, attained her degree, and became a Psych Nurse with Valley Mental Health at age 62. There she met many wonderful friends and colleagues with whom she kept close until her passing. After 10 years working as a nurse, she moved to New York with Kitty who had gone there for her work. Ruth loved New York and everything about it and she often told people that she was from there.

Also, during these years, she loved to travel. She traveled to many different places with Kitty, Irene, and her nursing friends. After a year in New York, she moved back to Salt Lake continuing to travel and be close to her granddaughters and growing family. Ruth was always so very proud of her family. She was loyal to her family and friends to a fault. If you were part of her family or one of her friends, you could do no wrong. You were the most beautiful and smartest person ever.

Her daughters and granddaughters were her best friends, and she was theirs. She will always be remembered for her endless shopping trips, her strong, vibrant, sassy personality, and her undying love for her family. She will be greatly missed.

Survived by: Daughter Kristin Fisher (Ron); granddaughters Sara Fisher (Jason McMurray), Allyson Holt (David), Erica Zollinger (Jake) and 9 great-grandchildren: Rylee, Laney, Elin Holt, Pyper Holt Nelson (Andrew), Jesse, Oaklyn, Zoe, Zak, and Bailey Zollinger.
