Ruth Torgersen

1930 ~ 2022

Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother (known as Nano to her grandchildren), passed peacefully away Sunday morning, August 28, 2022 at her home. She was born to her parents Arch Peter and Alice Lambert Robertson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended school in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1947. She also attended the University of Utah and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She met the love of her life, Gene Earl Torgersen, while in high school, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 1950.

She lived her entire life in Salt Lake City and Sandy except for a 2-year period when they lived in Fort Belvoir, Virginia where they were stationed during the Korean War. Returning from Virginia they bought a home in east Salt Lake City where they lived for about 10 years before building their dream home just a few blocks away on Sage Way. They lived there from 1965 to 1999 before moving to Sandy, Utah. Always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ruth served faithfully in many callings including Primary President and Relief Society President in the Parleys 7th Ward and worked with the Primary General Board as well. She loved Scouting and served as a Den mother and Merit Badge Counselor.

She was active in community service as she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Primary Children's Hospital and served as PTA President for both Beacon Heights Elementary School and Hillside Junior High and served in the PTA at Highland High. She also spent many hours volunteering for the Utah Heart Association and served as an election judge many times.

She loved music and sang with the Salt Lake Oratorio Society and various church choirs. She and Dad were season ticket holders for the Utah Symphony and loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She loved dancing and enjoyed dancing with Dad. She was a huge University of Utah football fan and also loved her Utah Jazz.

Mom is survived by her children Teri (George) Croft, Buffy (Brent) Epperson, Eric (Brenda) Torgersen, Robert (Jami) Torgersen and Suzy (Jim) Dowdy, 26 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren and her sister Ednalene "Bunny" Foreman and her husband Richard, and sister-in-law Lenore Robertson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Arch Richard and son James Christian.

We still treasure the years living in Parleys 7th Ward. A highlight was our association with the Torgersens. We love you all and the part you played blessing our lives. We are currently serving a mission in Europe, unable to visit with you personally. We pray that you may enjoy the sweet peace of the Comforter. Your folks are great and wonderful examples.
