RuthAnn Tingey, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 27, 2025, at her home in South Jordan, Utah, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

She was born on November 29, 1946, in Logan, Utah, and spent her early years on the family farm in Flowell. She fondly recalled riding her horse to visit her grandparents in Fillmore before moving with her family to the Glendale Park area of Salt Lake City at the age of eight. RuthAnn graduated from South High School in 1965, where she met her loving husband, Steve Tingey, in their shared English class. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1969.

After high school, RuthAnn attended beauty school and worked as a Cosmetologist before later working at Mervyn’s retail store for many years.

RuthAnn and Steve built their life together in their cherished home in South Jordan, where they raised their four kids and have lived for 53 years. What was once a house in the country gradually became surrounded by neighbors whom they grew to love and appreciate deeply. Though she often called it a small house, she filled it with warmth and love, creating a welcoming home where countless grandchildren, family members, and friends gathered and made cherished memories.

Family was at the heart of RuthAnn’s life. She treasured time spent with loved ones and created lasting memories on yearly trips to Mesquite, Nevada, as well as boating excursions, camping adventures, and vacations around the world. She made it a priority to visit Texas at least once a year to spend time with her daughter and family there. Later in life, she found great joy in cheering on her grandchildren at their many sporting events and activities. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and loved sharing their successes with family and friends. RuthAnn also loved cheering on her beloved BYU Cougars.

RuthAnn had a deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved attending church services and visiting the temple as often as possible. She cherished the breathtaking view of the Jordan River Temple from her backyard and found great fulfillment in serving in various callings within her ward.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Steve; children Shane (Idianexis), Shaelyn Fox (Chad), and Blake (Caryn); siblings Susan (Anthony), Jodie (Tom), Jan (Dale), and Mike Patience (Kim); and eleven grandchildren: Paige, Gavin, Tyson, Dylan, Brianna, Brooklyn, Piper, Ainzleigh, Emma, Kyden, and Tate. She was affectionately known as "Nana" to them all.

She was preceded in death by her son Travis(Beth) and parents Grover and Irene Carling.

RuthAnn’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Erin Blackstock and the Pulmonary Department at IHC Medical Center for their compassionate care.

A viewing will be held Thursday, March 6th from 6:00-8:00pm at the LDS chapel on 10168 S 1110 W, South Jordan, UT 84095. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7th at 11:00am at the same location. Prior to funeral services a viewing will be held from 9:30am-10:30am. Dear Tingey Family.
I am so saddened to hear of RuthAnn's passing. I have many good memories of serving with her in both Church and PTA . She was always so willing to help and lend her talents and abilities. She was always a good friend, and I know she has suffered for many years.
I pray your family will feel comfort and peace in the promised blessing the Gospel brings. It was a privilege to know her and call her a friend. May the Lord bless each of you.

I am Virginia Larsen’s daughter, who is the daughter of Leora Allen. My mom and Ruth Ann were cousins, and I also went to school with Travis. I want to express my sincere condolences to you and your family. I’m so sorry for the loss of Ruth Ann. I am not able to make it to the funeral today due to being sick, but I will make sure to watch it live stream. I’m grateful to have been able to visit with Ruth Ann at my dad’s funeral back in September 2023 and when she called me after my mom passed away last November 2024. It was so good to see and talk to her. She has always been so kind throughout my life when I have visited with her. She and my mom were close cousins. It will be nice that they will be able to see each other again. ❤️
