Richard Sperry Love

1923 ~ 2015

Richard Sperry Love, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2015. Richard was born April 26th, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to J. Leonard Love and Hazel Anna Sperry Love. He lived and worked in Salt Lake, where he graduated from East High and attended the University of Utah.

He served in the Army Air Corps 367th Fighter Group during WWII as an airplane mechanic alongside his brother Jay.After returning home he met his sweetheart, Marian Newkirk and shortly after were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on June 12th, 1946. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Richard was a well-known and respected businessman and entrepreneur in the community. He was president and general manager of Love Machine Co, and along with family members started several business', including; Diesel Electric, Amware, and Waukesha of Utah. He also served as Past President of National Automotive Engine Rebuilders Association.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in three bishoprics and as Bishop of the Monument Park 9th Ward. He honored his priesthood throughout his life and blessed those around him through his righteous example and service.

Richard loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time on the weekends building his family's cabin at Bear Lake. He wanted his family to have a place to be together and build memories. When not working on the cabin you would find him out on the boat having fun with the kids. He was an avid golfer and loved playing with his "golf buddies" well into his 80's. You always knew when spring had arrived because you would find him out swinging the clubs with friends.

Richard was respected and loved by all that knew him, and was known for his honesty, integrity, patience, work ethic and most of all by living up to his name, "Love."

Richard is survived by his loving wife Marian and children, Steven (Debbi), Susan Jones (Wayne), Douglas (Lori), Rebecca Gledhill (Dale), 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and sister Joyce Jenson (Spence). He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jay Love, and 4 grandchildren.

Viewing and funeral services will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at Monument Park 9th Ward located at 1565 South Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, Utah. The viewing will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 am prior to funeral services at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery located at 3400 South Highland Drive in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
