Alice Kay Corley Mutter

1948 ~ 2017

On October 19, 2017, our mom, friend, teacher, and grandma left this earth, finally free from the pain and struggles of her body. She fought a brave battle with Diabetes and Heart Failure.

Alyce, better known to her beloved students as Ms. Mutter, was all about people and the relationships formed throughout her life. When she listened to others, it was with her whole heart and genuine concern. She mothered many more than just her own. She deeply loved her family and was the life of the party at all family reunions, her enthusiasm and zest for life were contagious. Her smile and the sparkle in her blue eyes were a gift to all who knew her.

Alyce Kay was born on September 19, 1948 to Gene Edwin Corley of New Mexico and Joyce Thompson of Australia. She loved them both very much. Family was everything to her! Alyce adored being a mother to Amara Blackburn, Anthony Corley Mutter, and Joyce Houston. She raised them as a single mother working hard to provide for them. In 1979, she chose to attend college to provide a better living for her children. Through sheer will and determination, Ms. Mutter attended Brigham Young University as a single mother, and completed a five-year program in three years, to obtain her Bachelor's degree in Music Education; an accomplishment she treasured greatly.

She taught 1 year in New Mexico, 8 years at Wayne High School, and 18 wonderful years at Kearns High School. She loved the people in the Kearns Community giving her whole heart to the HS Music Program. Ms. Mutter expected a lot of her students and changed lives by teaching that "Music comes from the heart." With all she accomplished, Alyce was simply known to her family as Grandma, a name she held with the deepest affection. She adored her grandchildren and would rather be with them than do anything else. Alyce loved sports, especially tennis, anything BYU, mountains, and watching sunsets. She had great faith in her Savior and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; recently called as a Service Missionary helping in the Seminary Institute Program, of which she felt honored. We already dearly miss every aspect of our precious mom… "Go Ye Now in Peace."

She is survived by her daughter Amara, (Kerry), son Anthony (Kristin), daughter Joyce (Kelly), nine grandchildren: Kassidy Butterfield (Daniel), Kara Blackburn, Aliea Lindsey (Anthony), Maliya Mutter, Corley Mutter, Haislye Mutter, Brodyn Mutter, Alysson Houston, Jacob Houston, and one great-granddaughter, HadLee Lindsey. Alyce was preceded in death by both parents and a beloved grandson, Keltson Blackburn.

Alyce's funeral service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Riverton 8th Ward, 12345 South 2700 West, Riverton, Utah 84065. There will be a viewing Friday, October 27 from 6-8 pm and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 am all at the church. Interment will be in the Herriman City Cemetery.
