Our sweet wife, mother, and grandmother, Deon Holmes peacefully returned to her Father in Heaven with her family by her side on Sunday evening, June 22, 2014. Deon was born to Melvin Roy and Ruth Almira Hardman Gadd on September 11, 1935 in Midvale, Utah. She married her sweetheart, Robert (Bob) William Holmes on April 10, 1953. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1997. Together they raised six children in the Granger Utah area where they made a home for over 50 years.
Deon loved her role as wife and mother and showed her family this through her words and actions. She was an example of unconditional love and service to all. Her optimism became a strength and was instilled in her children and in all those with whom she associated. She was the youngest daughter in the group of four very close sisters and two brothers. Deon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shared her testimony of the Savior with great conviction. She served in many capacities, including Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, where she formed many close friendships. Deon loved singing and participated in ward choirs as well as with the women's group, "The Keynotes". In her spare time, she enjoyed playing games with family, gardening, sewing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, and especially enjoyed time with her sweetheart as he pursued his passion for the outdoors. One of her favorite vacation spots was Lake Powell where she enjoyed listening to the music she loved, echo off the beautiful canyon walls. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and frequently asked about their progress through life. Her family was her most cherished reward.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Deloris, Lois, Kaye, and Lynn, and also her children Susan Lee Hooper, Mark Robert Holmes, and daughter-in-law Anna Lee Davis Holmes (and baby Michelle). She is survived by her husband Robert, children Michael Hartley Holmes (Kristine), LaVon Louise Pavlowich (Lawrence), Annette Deon Johnson, Blaine Melvin Holmes (Sheri), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westlake Ward, 3175 S. 3450 W., West Valley City, Utah. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary ‚ Riverton, 3688 W. 12600 S., Riverton, Utah and also on Thursday from 9:30 ‚ 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the ward.
