Janet Garn Redenbaugh

1922 ~ 2015

Martha Janet Garn Redenbaugh, known to family as "Mauny", returned home February 1, 2015 while in the loving embrace of her family. Born at the home of her grandparents in Fairview, Utah, on February 21, 1922, to J. Edwin Garn and Fern Christensen Garn, and raised to the age of 14 in Richfield, Utah, her family moved to SLC in time for her to spend her high school years at East High School. While she thrived in a bigger city she always cherished her small town upbringing.

Janet met her eternal companion, Russell, while attending the University of Utah. Their marriage on August 1, 1942 was later solemnized for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they established Janet Russell Candy Company producing "deliberately delicious" chocolates and Salt Water Taffy for over 60 years. Their union also produced two sons and two daughters. Family was foremost for Janet and in addition to her loving involvement with her children, grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren she enjoyed lifelong friendships with extended family including many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gifted in many areas, Janet began playing the piano at age 5 and the organ at age 8. As a ward organist she blessed LDS congregations with her musical ability for over 80 years. As a young woman, she served as her father's co-pilot on the first airmail flights to small western towns and proudly remembers founding the Women's Aeronautic Club as a student at the University of Utah.

Janet has gone on to join many family members including her beloved husband, Russ, and son, David C. Redenbaugh. Among those holding her in loving memory are her sister Mildred (Vern) Bingham and brother E. Jake (Kathleen) Garn; son, Russell Garn Redenbaugh and his wife, Natalia Redenbaugh, and his children David H. Redenbaugh (wife, Danielle and daughter Isabel), Allie Redenbaugh (husband Joe and son Clayton) and James D. Redenbaugh; daughter Jan R. Magdalen, and her children, James E. Magleby (wife Tory, and children Rainey Cornaby, Austin, Zoe, Dylan, and Tegan), Robert L. Magleby (wife, Jessica) and Timothy D. Magleby; daughter Martha R. Maidana, and her son, Nicholas D. Maidana.

Janet's family would like to express their profound gratitude to Lucia Martins for providing exceptional loving care to Janet during her last years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Emigration 6th Ward, 589 E. 18th Avenue (off Hilltop Dr.), where a viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the services.
