John Clayton Petty

1931 ~ 2013

John Clayton Petty returned home to our Father in Heaven on September 30, 2013. Born December 6, 1931 to Thomas Reed Petty and Ella Armstrong in Cedar City, UT. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Married his honey, Kathleen Kaye Baker on Aug. 26, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John worked at Hercules before starting his own meat business, Petty's Meat Packing Company. After selling his business in 1975 he went to work as a welder for Jordan School District. He and his honey, Kathleen, served an LDS Mission in Florida. He was very active in the scouting program, and served in various callings in the LDS church.

He is survived by his honey of 58 years, Kathleen Kaye Baker, Draper, Utah; sister Susie Fortune of Gabbs, Nevada; Children: Reed (Janet) of Harrison, Arkansas, Karrie (Jeff) Phillips of Salt Lake City, Utah, Becky (Tony) Archibald of Price, Utah, Kaylene (John) Stephens of Finksburg, Maryland, and Nancy (Scott) Hicks of West Jordan, Utah. 25 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Preceeded by his parents, his brothers David and Ken, and sisters Edith Lee and Wilma Lou.

Funeral Services will be Friday, October 4th at the LDS Draper 2nd Ward, 12700 S. 1617 E., Draper, UT at 11 a.m. with a viewing on Thursday, October 3rd at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT from 6-8pm and at the Church on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m.
