Sandra Jean Kemp

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by family.

Sandra Jean “Sandy” Kemp was born on July 26, 1941, in San Bernardino, California, to Robert Wing Smith and Wanda Memmott Smith. Sandy was the oldest of five children.

Sandy met Dennis Lynn Kemp, the love of her life, in junior high school. They graduated together from Jordan High School in 1959 and were married two years later October 20, 1961, in Crescent, Utah. Together they were blessed with seven children.

Sandy and Lynn first raised their family in a small home in Crescent before eventually moving to Riverton, Utah, where they created a beautiful yard and garden and provided a lifetime of memories for their children and grandchildren. Sandy graduated from beauty school and worked as a seamstress before deciding to stay home to raise her children. She later opened a daycare in her home, where she helped raise her grandchildren and shared her love and kindness with many other children and families over the years.

After Lynn retired in 2002, they spent many happy years in Riverton before later moving to Herriman, Utah, where they enjoyed working in their yard, caring for grandchildren, and spending time with family. Sandy loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and accumulated an impressive book collection. After the passing of her sweetheart in October 2021, Sandy remained in their home with her beloved cats, Cash and Willie.

Sandy will be remembered for her kindness, her love for children, her acceptance of others, and her unconditional love. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished.

Sandy is survived by her children: Jeff Kemp (Tammy), Brent Kemp, Robyn Kone (Jeff), Melinda Andreason (Paul), and Cody Kemp (Becky); 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Lynn Kemp; her parents, Robert and Wanda Smith; her brothers, Jan Smith and Barry Smith; her sisters, Cherri Fuller and Marvene Smith; and her sons, Gerald and Darren Kemp.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah 84065. A graveside service will be held immediately following the viewing at Crescent Cemetery, 11105 South State Street, Sandy, Utah 84070.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Intermountain Hospice, especially nurses Kelsey and Grace, for their compassionate care and for helping provide a peaceful transition.
