Our dear mother, Sandy Fisher, age 80, passed away on August 12, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born in Joseph, Utah and also lived in Richfield and Monroe. Her father died when she was only 3 years old which led to many challenges growing up. A childhood highlight was picnicking at the Big Rock Candy Mountain with her family. After high school, she moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in English. She met the fun-loving Jack Fisher in the Sacra Dulce Chorus and they were married in 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. She worked as a legal secretary most of her life starting at her brother’s law office and ending at Kirton McConkie – she always said they were lucky she had great English skills.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she quietly shared her faith and served faithfully in her callings. She was a long-time member of the Ensign Peak Ward and the Winder 4th Ward and loved the people in these congregations.

Sandy and Jack had five daughters that were all close in age. She worked hard to take care of a busy household of little girls: making meals, braiding and curling hair, arbitrating disagreements, and preparing birthday parties and picnics.

She was humble, kind, very fun, quietly caring, and a very hard worker. She was good at giving people her full attention and a great listener. She faced many challenges in life, but persevered. She didn’t like attention and rarely asked for help, but enjoyed the company of good friends and neighbors.

In her free time, she liked to be at home working in her large vegetable garden and her yard full of flowers. As an avid reader, she always had a large stack of books in progress. She was very knowledgeable about local and world events and enjoyed talking about current events and sports. She always had a section of the newspaper with her in case she had time to read.

She spent thousands of happy hours with her grandchildren: reading with them, feeding them, and playing countless games. We have so many happy memories of time spent together: playing croquet, watching Jazz games, eating fresh corn and watermelon, and picking raspberries and tomatoes from her huge garden. Grandma’s legacy is one of love.

Sandy will be greatly missed by her five daughters (Jacqueline Burgess, Jennifer Fisher, Carolee Fisher, Debra Richards, and Christina Hilton) as well as her sister (Connie Christensen), her sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her first great grandson, and all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Alliance for International Medicine.

I was a member of the Winder 4th Ward for ten years and enjoyed my friendship and association with your Sandy very much. I loved her sense of humor and her laugh. We belonged to a book club for a couple of years together as well. I enjoyed her perspective in the book group and always was very interested in the books that she chose to review.

She and Maxine Beck were great friends and I loved their friendship together. When your mother found out that I went to Brighton High School and then taught there we made the connection that I knew her sister Connie Christensen as well. Connie was one of my very favorite teachers.

I admired Sandy's testimony and her faithfulness to the Gospel. I moved out of the ward a couple of years ago and missed her as well as many of the others in the ward. I was so sad to learn of her passing. I have thought of her often the past few days and I hope that you find peace and joy in sweet memories of your time with her and peace hope that families are forever.
