Sarah Lynn Mason, 64, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, in Salt Lake City, UT, with her Johnny Kevin by her side. Sarah was born on April 23, 1959, in Willows, CA, to John and Barbara McLaughlin. Her childhood was full of memories of spending time with her cousins and being outdoors. She participated in 4H and played middle school basketball. Sarah attended Chico High School and participated in various sports.

After high school, she attended Butte College and later met and married the love of her life, John Kevin Mason, and had three children. She ran a successful daycare and preschool for many years, blessing the lives of anyone lucky enough to spend time in her home. While running her business, she was actively involved in the community as a coach, soccer referee, scout leader, school volunteer, CASA advocate, church leader, and mentor to those around her. She even found time to start the Granite Bay Softball League one year for her girls. She spent her life happily serving those around her and bettering her community.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ. She created countless gardens that were works of art and had the most beautiful front yard where she happily worked until someone would stop by to be blessed by her gift of gab. She made her home a haven and place to feel loved and accepted for anyone who walked through the doors. Despite many health challenges, she created magical moments for her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as possible.

She is survived by her husband John Mason, son Lloyd (Jessica) Mason, Brooke (Christian) Bowers, Alexis (Matt) Hicks, 13 grandchildren, and many “adopted” children she considered her own. She is preceded in death by her parents, John McLaughlin and Barbara J McLaughlin.

Beautiful Sarah, inside and out. I am so saddened to hear of your passing. Sending healing Aloha to your family. Rest in Love, Sarah.

Sarah Mason in many ways was a second mom to me. Her home was a haven filled with fun, the gospel, and good food.
What I remember most about Sarah were two things: She was always smiling and made incredible bean dip! Second, Sarah always took time to ask how I was doing, and, of course, she grew the most miraculous sunflowers.

I love her and her family.

Sarah will be missed by me very much. There is a saying in the family as long as the person lost is in your thoughts they are alway with you. She will always be with me. She has a great family to keep her memory and big heart and kindness going.

I was sorry to hear of Sarah’s passing. She was my children’s after school day care provider and they truly loved her. She always had a smile on her face and she truly loved all her kids. I also knew her as Brook’s mom and she was a friend to all. May she rest in peace.

Sarah was an amazingly loving and giving woman. She gave from the depth of her heart to all those around her. She will be missed and though physically gone she will never be forgotten. My prayers go out to John and all of her family and friends.

I have so many memories of my friend Sarah. We were leaders at Girls Camp together, she was a customer of mine & I absolutely love her and her infectious smile. Sarah blessed many lives, mine included. I have shed tears but I know she has simply relocated & we will meet again. Love & hugs to the Mason family.
