It's with the deepest, most heartbreaking devastation and sadness that Sarah Petersen's family announces her sudden and unexpected passing on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the age of 36.
Sarah will be a part of us all, always and forever, in our hearts. She will be lovingly remembered and missed terribly, beyond belief. Sarah is survived by her husband, Kyle; children, Brody and Mason; her momma, Vickie (Bill); Ken (Julie); step-sister Jill (Nick); and many other family members.
Sarah was born and raised in Butte, Montana, and moved to Utah at the age of 10. She was an outgoing kid who loved anything athletic and outdoors. Sarah was on the Alta High School Junior Varsity basketball team. She loved to ride dirt bikes and snowmobiles, camp, boat, play softball and basketball, and have Nerf gun wars with her husband and boys, among so many other things. She was up to doing anything outdoors and especially loved their time together in Bear Lake.
Sarah graduated from high school in 2006. She went on to school to be a nail technician and later became a chiropractor's assistant.
Sarah met the love of her life, Kyle, in 2013. She immediately knew he was "her person." They married soon after, as they didn't want to wait to start their life together, knowing they were meant for each other.
Sarah and Kyle had an amazing life together. They loved each other wholeheartedly, passionately and fiercely. She'd often say, "Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love comes along and brings you a fairy tale."
Sarah always wanted to be a mother. Together, she and Kyle brought Brody and Mason into this world. Sarah CRUSHED being a momma. She mommed so hard. She loved her boys, Brody and Mason, and they always said together, "I love you to the moon and back, infinity and beyond." Again, Sarah mommed so hard. She took the time to teach them so much and was always exploring new things with them. However, if you messed with her "cubs," she was a true momma bear.
Brody was always bringing some creature home for Sarah to ultimately take care of. Mason put on plays with her. And they were always doing some craft or invention together. Sarah spent many hours at the boys' school each week, volunteering in their classrooms and overseeing class parties.
Outside of her boys' schooling, Sarah spent countless hours taking them to new places, on amazing adventures and trying to show them the world. Sarah was not a spectator in her life. She was on the front line, actually creating the fondest of memories for everyone whom she connected with.
Sarah truly had the kindest heart and soul. This could be seen in how she loved everyone else's children as her own. Sarah was the most amazing beautiful wife, momma, daughter and person, so kind and considerate. If you know Sarah, you know this to be true.
Sarah was born when her momma, Vickie, was 16. They grew up together and were always the best of friends. Sarah was her momma's rock. There was nothing they wouldn't do for each other. Luckily, they spent a lot of time together and had many adventures as a family. Your momma will always love you, Creep.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away

I'm still in utter shock and disbelief to lose such a beautiful and amazing friend. Sarah was more than a friend though, she is family! She takes such amazing care of those around her. I'll always be forever grateful for the love and attention Sarah always gave to my children. They always looked forward to seeing her, playing basketball, and seeing what else they could discover and play with in the garage. Sarah was all about making sure everyone was having a good time and had what they needed. I'm SO going to miss her laugh, contagious smile, caring ways, her yummy food and adventurous spirit!
