Oral Jay Call

1931 ~ 2016

O. Jay Call was born in Declo, Idaho, November 2, 1931; son of Aaron Willey Call, and Lydia McMurray Call; the youngest of their eight children.

Even during the great depression, his family of farmers always had plenty of food on the dinner table. Farm life taught him to value "hard work." From a young age, Jay loved music and sports, and he excelled in both. Playing the trumpet and singing brought him great joy. His performances in dance bands, musical productions, and singing in an old-time quartet delighted audiences for many years. He also sang in the Tabernacle Choir. In 1949, he married Donna Rae Bagley. Together they had five children. Jay made a living in sales and business development. The majority of his career was spent working for the Gold Strike Stamp Company. Jay and Donna Rae divorced in 1970, and he married Sandra Johnson in 1974. After losing Sandra to cancer, he was fortunate to be introduced to and fall in love with Jeanette Wright, who brought much happiness and love to him (Jeanette is a joy and a blessing to everyone in the family). Together they served an LDS Public Affairs Mission for Central Europe, head quartered in Frankfurt, Germany. While serving, they had the opportunity to enjoy travel throughout many parts of Europe. Jay wrote many articles for church publication.

The last 17 years of Jay's life were hampered by neuralgia, caused by shingles. Doctors were unable to give him a cure or relief. The last few months of his life, he suffered from MDS. Due to complications of MDS, he went to his heavenly home on November 6,2016. He passed away in his home with his loving Jeanette by his side. Jay cherished his testimony of his Savoir, the gospel, and his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served in many positions in his ward and stake.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette Call; children, Tamara Kirkham (Gordon); Ronna Lawrence; Greg Call (Marty Christensen); Kristi Black (Brian); Cindy Salisbury (Rich); Stephanie Davis, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
