Selar Stephen Hutchings Jr, 90, peacefully passed away on Aug 5, 2023 with family by his side. He was born on May 27, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Selar S Hutchings, Sr and Harriet Snarr.

Selar grew up on the Desert Range Experimental Station in western Utah and graduated from Milford High School in 1951. He attended Weber College and graduated from the University of Utah with a mechanical engineering degree.

Selar was deeply patriotic and proudly served the US Army in the Korean War, repairing and retrieving tanks.

While in college, he met Marilyn Jensen and they married in the Logan Temple on Oct 29, 1953. Marilyn was truly the love of his life and influenced him for good throughout their days together. Selar was ordained a high priest in the LDS Church and served in many callings.

As a licensed professional engineer, Selar enjoyed a long and productive career in construction management and oversaw construction of the coal-fired power plant near Huntington, Utah. Selar came out of retirement to be involved in building the church Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Selar’s lifelong passions were cheering for the Utes and collecting model trains, toy trucks, coins, and antique tools.

Selar was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn and his brother Lynn. Selar is survived by his two daughters, Heidi (Tony) Hale and Holli (Craig) Connelly, as well as grandchildren Jordan, Zachary, Matthew, Eliza, Jakob, and Josie, and five great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, Aug 11th, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with a viewing one hour prior on Saturday, Aug 12th, at the LDS church building, 10945 South 1700 East, Sandy. Guestbook/Condolences

I am happy that Selar was such a decent person and that he was long married to such an extremely good woman. I also appreciate how healthy he stayed for such a long time.
