1939 ~ 2025
Sharon Pringle Dalebout, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 86.
Born in June 1939, in Salt Lake City to Ward and Helen (Geertsen) Pringle, Sharon grew up on Imperial Street in Sugar House with her mother, father, and younger brother. She attended South High School, forming strong bonds with friends who remained close throughout her life. Sharon married her lifelong husband, Ralph Dalebout, in 1962. Sharon lived in Washington, California, New York, and Germany, but she was most at home in Boulder, Colorado, her favorite place on earth, in her house full of antiques, crafts, sunshine, and music.
Sharon began her work career as a telephone operator in Salt Lake City before focusing on raising her children during their early years. She enjoyed work as a Field Supervisor for the Indian Hills Girl Scout Council in Binghamton, New York, where she thrived in creating projects and programs for young women in central New York. In Colorado, she continued to share her knowledge at Shuttles, Spindles, and Skeins, teaching sock classes and contracting for complex knitting projects. The job she took the most pride in was being the house manager for decades at the Colorado Music Festival at Chautauqua Park, a position that brought her deep fulfillment.
A dedicated mother to three challenging kids in the 1970s, Sharon spent hours behind the wheel of the family’s 1971 orange Volkswagen Bus, driving her children all over California and New York, with a door that didn’t always stay attached to the vehicle. Sharon loved being a mom not just to her own children, but also through her role as host mom to international exchange students, where she organized birthday parties, sightseeing trips, Christmases rich in tradition, and everything needed to help a young person thrive. Sharon always made sure to send a birthday card or Christmas remembrance.
Sharon weaved together a life of family, folk art, music, and community. Her knitting bag was a constant companion, always on the ready for a multitasking opportunity or a long stoplight. She crafted cherished Christmas stockings for every child and grandchild, each featuring her signature bearded Santa design. She spent years making quilts, sweaters, and hats, ensuring her family was wrapped in her care and affection. A lifelong music enthusiast, she continued attending concerts at Chautauqua Park, staying connected to the passions that have defined her.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, and her brother, Doug Pringle. Sharon is survived by her children: Rebecca, Bruce, and Michael (Suzanne); Nephews: Chad (Di), Will, and Charles (D.2011); Nieces: Andrea, Deb (Tom), and Kris (Paul); Grandchildren: Lindsay (Dave), Taylor (Jonny), Marley, Hayden, Cody, and Maddox; Great grandchildren Hallie, Clara, and Harvey
We will celebrate Sharon’s life in the glow of fall colors with a Celebration of Life to be held on October 25, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
