Sharon Lynne Geddes Asay

1937 ~ 2022

Sharon Lynne Geddes Asay—devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend of many—passed away peacefully on the morning of October 10th, 2022, at the age of 85 in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her husband and children in the comfort of her home.

Sharon was born on May 9th, 1937, to William and Eva Geddes, in San Jose, California. William enlisted in the Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor and was deployed to Europe in 1943. Despite living among war-era rations, Eva brought magic into the lives of Sharon and her sister, June, with music, ballet, and art. In 1945, Sharon’s younger sister, Lynn, was born. Music held a stronghold in Sharon’s heart as she grew up playing the piano, a passion that persisted up to her final days.

Sharon gave birth to four beautiful, vibrant, and unique girls: June Colleen (later, Jorji), Kerry, Pamela, and Amy. Sharon, as a young mother, provided her four daughters with a magical music filled upbringing. On September 30th, 1970, Sharon married Vivin “Dennis” Asay, who became her lifelong husband (they celebrated their 52nd anniversary only ten days before her demise). As her daughters grew into adulthood and embarked on their own adventures into life and motherhood, Sharon and Dennis gave birth to two boys, David and Jeremy. Due to Sharon’s influence, music has always been a cathartic safe harbor for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sharon loved to watch and listen to her progeny perform. This continued up to her last days in in-home hospice care, where she played music with her children; and her children and grandchildren performed for her original music and sacred hymns, returning and preserving the gift she had given them.

Sharon served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her husband, Dennis (Geneva, Switzerland from 2010 to 2011).

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother and father, Eva and William Geddes. She endured the untimely death of two daughters, Jorji and Pamela. She is survived by her husband, Dennis; her sisters, Lynn and June; her children, Kerry, Amy, David, and Jeremy; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.

Sharon was very loved and will be terribly missed.

Funeral services will be held at Larkin Mortuary (260 E S Temple St, Salt Lake City, UT) on Tuesday, October 18th, from 11:00am to 12:30pm. There will be a visitation from 10 to 10:45am, prior to the service. Interment will be at Logan City Cemetery (1000 N 1200 E, Logan, UT) at 2:30 pm.
