Sharon Wheeler Nielsen, 80, passed away at her home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah on Thursday, November 2, 2023, with her loving daughter-in-law and nurse Melinda by her side.

Sharon was born in Palo Pinto, Texas on July 24, 1943, to the parents of Lawrence John Wheeler and Hortense Alletta Fjelstrom.

As a young child Sharon grew up across the street from Liberty Park, always believing that the 24th of July celebrations were for "her" birthday. She attended and graduated from South High School. Sharon was always a transparent, straight forward person who always said it how it was. She was a woman of tremendous strength, integrity, honesty, logicality and the most generous person you could ever meet. She adored her beautiful grandchildren. They brought her the greatest happiness in her life. She was determined and able to watch her oldest granddaughter marry the man of her dreams 12 days before her passing.

She married Jerry Vern Nielsen on May 4, 1963. They later divorced. From that marriage came two sons, Corey and Rob.

Survived by her sons, Corey (Carol) Nielsen, Rob Nielsen. Her beloved grandchildren, Chase Nielsen, Casee (Christian) Froisland, Jaida Hurskainen and Tony Hurskainen. Also, by her two sisters, Jackie and Carolyn. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Don.
Our family could never express enough gratitude to Elevation Hospice. A special thanks to Melinda, Laura and Stephanie who truly cared for Sharon and gave their all to her, by showing her so much love and compassion and making her last few months here a "party."

Sharon requested no services. Please celebrate her life by having a toast in her name.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Guestbook/Condolences

When I was about 13, me and my sisters and cousins lived a couple houses down from Sharon, we became very close with her and would visit often. She was very stubborn, but also had the kindest heart and welcomed us with open arms. I am saddened to hear the news but I will forever cherish my memories with her. Rest in love.
