It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sheryl Lee Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, caregiver, and friend, who left this world on November 5, 2024 at the age of 68. She was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of her passing.
Born on April 13, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sheryl was a loving mother whose pride and joy were her children. She dedicated her life to ensuring that they were surrounded by love, support, and guidance. Her greatest happiness came from watching her children grow and thrive, and later, build their families.
She was a devoted and loving grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of her grandchildren. Always there with a listening ear and a comforting hug, she was a guiding light in their lives. Her home was a place of laughter, stories, and unconditional love, where memories were made that will last a lifetime. She took great joy in watching her grandchildren grow, offering both gentle support and words of encouragement at every step. Her legacy as a grandmother is one of love, patience, and unwavering devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Sheryl also dedicated many years of her life to hospice care as a CNA. Whether it was taking care of her patients, family members or friends, Sheryl was always there with a heart full of empathy and a willingness to help. Her work as a caregiver was not just a job—it was a calling, one she embraced with grace and dedication. She carried her knowledge of the field into her last days taking every opportunity to teach her own caregivers what should be done.
Sheryl was deeply interested in others lives and she had an uncanny ability to stay informed. She had an immense passion for sharing stories and connecting with people through conversation that often made her terrible at keeping secrets. Her family jokingly coined the phrase “Telegraph, Telephone, Tell-Sheryl” to describe how someone already had knowledge of something you hadn’t told them yet.
Sheryl enjoyed music of all kinds, and was very crafty often crocheting items for family and friends. She was always up for any adventure, including camping and hiking or something as simple as taking a cruise across town in the car. Sheryl also loved to host get togethers for every holiday to celebrate with her loved ones. She also was overjoyed to serve as Resident Council President at her care facility, not only to improve her surroundings but to give a voice to all residents of the facility and advocate for them on the issues they saw as important.
Sheryl is survived by her children Heather, Heidi (Tulako) & Hollie, her beloved grandchildren Monique, Cameron, Vanessa, Noah and Brooklyn, her great grandchild Weslyn, her brother Benjamin (Lee), and extended family and friends who will remember her with love and gratitude. She was preceded in death by her father Benjamin, mother Ann, brother Mike and her son Tommy.
Sheryl’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest source of pride. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Sheryl’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at CopperRidge Healthcare in West Jordan for the care, support and friendship you provided to our mother. Your team went above and beyond to ensure that she was comfortable, respected, and surrounded by kindness and love. A special thank you to Canyon Home Care & Hospice, and her nurse Heidi for the amazing care, compassion and communication during such a difficult time for her and our family.
A private viewing will be held for immediate family, and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
