A Tribute to Our Dad

Dad Died May 4th 2015 from complications of pneumonia in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 83. He was born March 14th 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the eldest child of Roy and Vonda Gatherum Turner.

Dad married his high school sweetheart Gayle D. Bate June 6th, 1950.

He was a graduate of East High School and attended the University of Utah. He was a member of the Utah Air National Guard while going to school and was activated during the Korean War serving until 1952.

Dad worked for the State of Utah Finance tabulating department then programmed for Atomic Energy Commission in Las Vegas Nevada.

Dad and Mom owned and operated the Paprika restaurant from 1962 ‚ 1978. Dad instilled a strong work ethic into many young employees of which many over the years have come back to thank him. After selling the restaurant they traveled extensively and spent winters in Palm Desert enjoying the weather and spending time with their many friends. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard and feeding birds. Dad was an animal lover, many stray cats found their way into his heart and home.

He found joy in going to coffee with friends and dinner with family. It was his job to watch the stock market and never missed reading his daily issue of the Wall Street Journal.

Dad had many friends and he will be missed for his sense of humor, quick wit, honesty, integrity, dependability and compassion. Dad truly displayed a love for his family.

Survived by his wife Gayle, daughters: Deleene Webb (Thaes Jr.), Cindey Page, Beverley Newton (Michael), grandchildren who lovingly called him PaPa, David Jason Stead (Danita), Amy Rich (Mark), Natalie McCraley (Todd), Adam Page, Jon Newton, Shon Newton and 12 Great grandchildren, brother Randy.

He was preceded in death by his brother Lonnie, Parents and numerous cats, especially Bridey.

Friends and family are invited to join us Saturday the 9th, 11:00 A.M. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary 2350 E. 1300 S. to celebrate Roy\s life and share memories.

Special thanks to Dr. Nathan Allred and all doctors and care givers that helped him and his family through this time.

Thanks for being a loving Husband, Dad and PaPa as well as a good friend.
