Sidney Marlo Checketts, aged 78, returned to his Father in Heaven on March 15, 2022. He passed through the veil peacefully after facing multiple health battles over the past three months.

He was born on February 10, 1944 in Brigham City UT to Marlo Anthon and Melba Clayson Checketts, and was raised in Bear River City UT. His parents taught him the values of hard work, education and family. As the oldest child, Sid spent a lot of time working with his dad on their dairy farm, and had many happy memories of the time they spent together. He learned to love animals and the outdoors, western movies and train sets. Under his mother’s watchful eye, he also developed a love of reading and learning, became a skilled writer and orator, and even learned to play the piano. Sid loved his younger brothers and sister, and enjoyed going on adventures and spending time with them throughout his life. He felt blessed to be a part of the family he was born into.

He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1962 before going on to one of the great experiences of his life – a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Sid served in the Ireland Mission under the direction of President Stephen R. Covey, where he garnered a long list of lifelong friends, who became his second family.

When he returned home, he attended Brigham Young University to study psychology, then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in order to serve his country. He was proud to be a Marine, and received an honorable discharge after his many years of service. Sid has held many jobs throughout his life: dairy farmer, truck driver, guard, salesman and stockbroker, to name a few. He was a hard worker and had a gift for talking with people and meeting challenges. In the high point of his career, he was often the top salesperson in his company and won several trips, including to Hawaii and the Bahamas.

Sidney married Rosemarie Lorraine Boel on September 22, 1967 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Sid has always worked hard for his family and tried to be a good dad and grandpa. His family will remember his dry wit; his hilarious laugh; his love of chocolate frosting, whipped cream, and peanut butter cookies; his deadpan gift for stating the obvious; his kind heart; his testimony; his example; and most of all, his love.

Sid was a great conversationalist and people were drawn to his warm personality and polished sense of humor as well as his sincere demeanor. He always had a great memory and many a good story to tell. His life was not without challenges, but he remained optimistic and focused on the things that mattered most. His nephews and nieces always speak fondly of Uncle Sid. He is well-respected and admired by his siblings. He has more friends than just about anyone you know, and he cherished them all. Thanks to all of you who made his life happy.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Rosemarie; their children, Candie Checketts (Scott) Lovell, Lance (Melanie) Checketts, Brett Checketts and Carolyn Checketts; and by his six grandsons, Chad Montoya, Alex (Renee) Montoya, Ryan Montoya, Deklin Checketts, Gabriel Checketts and Silas Checketts; his brothers, Myron, Brice (Marlene) and Kim (Susan), as well as his sister Margo (Keith) Cook. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and by his only granddaughter, Kimberly Montoya.

Services will be held in his honor at Noon on Saturday March 19th at the Sunset Ridge 9th Ward Chapel located at 8834 S Duck Ridge Way, West Jordan UT, with a viewing prior to services beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at the Herriman City Cemetery, 12465 S Pioneer St (6000 West), Herriman UT.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for their excellent care and incredible kindness in the last months and weeks of Sid’s life.
