  • Steven Randall Allen passed away on December 5th after a brave battle with cancer.

Born January 8, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Randy was the oldest child of Edgar and Josephine Allen. Randy loved to play baseball and was involved in Little League from an early age. Randy attended St. Anne’s and Judge Memorial before transferring to Hillcrest High School in his junior year to join their baseball team. Randy was an outstanding pitcher and was a member of the Utah All-State Team. When he graduated from Hillcrest in 1966, it was with a baseball scholarship to the University of Utah. Randy was a member of the Utah National Guard, and served for six years.

While attending the U of U, he met his eternal companion, Nancy Barber, and they were married on September 12, 1969.
Randy started his career at Safeway Stores, and then worked in the food sales industry as a food broker for 30 years. His friendly and outgoing personality made him a natural in sales. He ended his food sales career, and began working in the boating and mobility industries. He retired in 2013. Randy was also a deputy for four years for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office.

Randy and Nancy had one daughter, Danielle, in 1980, whose much anticipated arrival completed their family. Danielle was the light of his life and they were very close. As a family, they enjoyed spending time together – especially going on boating trips with family and friends to Lake Powell. Randy loved to be outside and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He enjoyed travelling and exploring new places. He was a sports enthusiast and could be found on the weekends watching his favorite football, baseball, basketball, and golf players and teams. Go Utes! Randy was the life of the party and always had a great joke or story to keep everyone laughing. His family was the most important thing to him and he loved spending time with them.

In 2003, Randy became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and in 2004 was sealed to his family. He was an active member of the church and especially loved serving in the bishopric of a Young Single Adults ward and with the youth of his home ward.
Randy is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Nancy, his daughter Danielle (Bryce Thomsen), his two grandsons, who were his pride and joy, his mother, and his sister Anne (Richard Mercer). He is also survived and adored by his many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Eddie and Mitch.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy. A private family service will be held on Friday, December 11th.

His family would like to express their appreciation for the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their unfailing compassion and work. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to HCI.

I am so sorry for your families loss. He lived a good life and was surrounded by a living family. I worked with Randy many moons ago at Kelley Clarke. Prayers and blessings.

I didn’t know Randy personally and I believe I met Nancy only one time. That said, I have had the privilege of being a work colleague with their daughter, Danielle, for many years. Working with Danielle is truly one of the crown jewels of my own career. Randy and Nancy instilled in Danielle an incredible work ethic, thirst for understanding and an incredible sense of humor. Randy has left a legacy to be proud of and I know he will truly be missed. All my thoughts are with his family and friends.

Who knew that 47 years ago our next door neighbor would become our life long dear friends. There are so many memories of good times and laughter. We cherish every one. Danielle shares a birthday with Uncle Vinnie and Randy shares a birthday with our granddaughter. We miss him terribly and hold you and the family in our hearts.

    Dear Nancy & Danielle:
I’m so sorry I couldn’t make the viewing last night. However, I was able to watch the funeral today. It was a fitting tribute to a life well lived. I have many fond memories of Randy and his kindness to me (& considering I was a teenager for most of that time, his tolerance as well!) My father has remarked several times during the past few years that Randy had become “truly converted to Christ”. I have no doubt he was joyfully welcomed on the other side of the veil. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Love, Marvy
