Sue Hawkins Holladay Bolinder (84 and 3/4) was born September 6, 1938 in Tremonton, Utah to James Eugene Holladay and Beatrice Hill Hawkins Holladay. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

Sue was only fourteen when she started dating Bob, her sweetheart. They were married May 28, 1955 on Bob’s 19th birthday (yes, it was his idea so that he would always remember the date). They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1960. They just celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Sue was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many different church callings and especially enjoyed teaching in Primary and Gospel Doctrine. Together, with her husband Bob, they started one of the first computer stores in the Salt Lake Valley in 1977 called The Byte Shop. Sue was a courageous business owner woman standing apart in a mostly male dominated industry. She sold the computers which were built by Bob on top of the pool table in their basement after his day job. All of her children worked in the family business at some point.

In 1993, she started doing Real Estate and sold her first house that summer. On the same day she sold that house she unknowingly met her future son in law. She was an agent with Wardley Better Homes & Gardens, Century 21, and Coldwell Banker’s West Jordan office. She thrived on her friendships and taught many computer classes there. She served as the State President of the Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR) from 1999-2000 and enjoyed being part of the real estate community for over 20 years.

She was part owner in The Memory Preserve Scrapbook Store from 2004-2007 where she loved teaching card classes and decorating the store for events and holidays. She loved to sew clothing from a young age. Many family members and friends were blessed to wear a wedding dress made by Sue. For many years Bob has only worn only the shirts she made for him. In 2010 she began quilting. She passed this wonderful obsession on to her daughter and many others. Despite progressive macular degeneration she made well over a hundred quilts and wall hangings that she enjoyed giving away to family and friends and donating.

Sue is survived by her husband, Bob (aka John Robert) and her four children Jim (Debbie) Bolinder; John (Gidge) Bolinder; Jack (Claudia) Bolinder; and Susan (Alan) Smith; 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, on the way are one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild; her siblings Hollis (Carol) Holladay; Kay Starkey, Pat Ellsworth, and sister-in-law Linda Holladay. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eugene Holladay, grandson Bryse Smith and great granddaughter Vivian Bolinder.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Hunter 10th Ward, 5000 West Pavant Avenue in West Valley City, Utah. Public viewings will be held at the same location from 6-8PM on Friday, June 16, 2023 and Saturday, June 17, 2023 prior to funeral services beginning at 12PM. Guestbook/Condolences

Aunt Sue you will be missed. I love you.

- Roberta Godfrey

Bob and Family,

Our sincere condolances for your loss. It was our great fortune to know you both for many years. The many "quilt shows" we received on our visits will always be rememered. Her quilting skills were just one of many remarkable skills she had. She will be missed!

I came to know Sue late in her life. I married her son John in 2020 during the pandemic. Because of the pandemic, visits were brief often at the door with masks. We did have several sweet visits later on where Sue shared her quilts and John's Dad told stories about his plane adventures. She visited with our daughter Anastasia and made her a memory quilt to congratulate her on her completed book. I wish we had met sooner. John was very proud of his mother and her life accomplishments. Much love sent to the entire Bolinder family.
