Susan Snell Winters, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father on April 19, 2026 after bravely battling cancer. She was born on August 23, 1958 in Palo Alto, California to Earl W and Carolyn D Snell. Her family later relocated to Salt Lake City, where she grew up and later attended East High School. She became a registered nurse and worked briefly at the Burn Center at the University of Utah. She met her future husband Bill one evening at the Medical Library at the University of Utah, and they were married six months later in the Salt Lake LDS temple on October 18, 1980. They lived in Portland, Maine and Boston during Bill’s training, then settled first in Seattle, and then in Bountiful, Utah. Susan loved traveling, especially to favorites Yellowstone National Park, San Clemente, California and Lake Powell. She was fond of visiting gift shops wherever they were in their travels. She also loved reading and spending time with friends and family. Susan was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many callings, her favorite always being as a Primary teacher for the children. She is survived by her husband Bill, children Michael and Andrea, mother Carolyn, siblings Barbara, Jeff, Heidi, Tim and Dan, brothers-in-law Wayne and John as well as six grandchildren, Isaac, Bradley, Mack, Scout, Zach and Scotty. Preceded in death by her father Earl Snell. Susan was a sweet, kind person who will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, SLC.
I love you Susan, you were a dear friend to me at times I needed one the most. You listened to me and gave me excellent advice…. I also admired your quick wit and sense of humor and I cherished our regular lunch dates with Robyn. Your gospel insights and spiritual wisdom blessed my life. I’m so happy to call you friend…. Just wish I knew the last time I saw you would be the last time…. 🥹💜 You’ll live forever in my heart sweet friend.
Our children love her as their primary teacher. She is gentle, caring, and forms a special connection with them especially with our youngest daughter. Every time I pick my daughter up from class, she is beaming with a smile. She even refers to her as “my first Primary teacher,” even though she has had others before. Susan clearly made a lasting impression on her.
My wife also had the opportunity to co-teach with her in Primary and often shared how much she enjoyed working alongside her. She spoke of her natural love for the children and the genuine joy she brings to serving them. She will be deeply missed.
We are so sad to hear the loss of Susan. She was an amazing elect lady and will be missed. We send our love and condolences. We are so sorry to miss her celebration on Saturday. Unfortunately, we are out of the country at this time.
With much love, Walt and Katie
