  • Susan Jackson Buffington passed away on Sunday February 20, 2022 in St. George, Utah from an Intracranial Hemorrhage. Susan was the faithful wife of William (Bill) S. Buffington for 43 years. Susan was survived by Bill (husband), Arthur Dean (Kirby) Jackson, (father, 98 years old), brothers, Bruce Jackson, David Jackson, sons – Sean Allen, Ryan Arthur (Savana), and Daniel Edwin. Susan was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Yvonne Mary Williams (2002), brother James Jackson (February 17, 2022) and Jerry Jackson (1951, as an infant). Susan truly loved being a mother and had great love and respect for her three sons, and all their varied accomplishments. Susan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in a number of leadership and support roles within the Church. She and Bill served a mission for the Church in the Utah Salt Lake City Headquarters Mission (2017-2018). Susan was widely loved as a leader and exemplar of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She taught with precision and exactness the gospel principles she lived. Susan grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from Highland High School, she attended the University of Utah. Susan graduated from “the U” with a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education. In 1978 she met Bill, and after a very quick courtship, they were married and left to spend their first few years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Susan enjoyed travel and blossomed as an expatriate wife and working as an English teacher. In all, Susan and Bill spent 14 years living on the Arabian Peninsula, and travelled extensively for both work and pleasure. Bill and Susan retired to St. George where they spent their time traveling, going on adventures, and participating in their Church and community. Bill often said that he was a far better person because of Susan’s influence in his life. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Utah Food Bank at www.utahfoodbank.org as a gift donation in the name of Susan Buffington.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 1493 W. Angel Arch Dr. St George, Utah at 11:00 AM. A Viewing will begin at 9:30 AM the same day. I didn’t know Susan personally but she was my husband’s first cousin. He is Bruce Williams and we live in Cisco, Texas. I know her friends, the Ungers, from their missionary service in our YSA branch in Midland Texas. I was scrolling thru Facebook when I saw her picture and before I looked at the name I said that she looked just like Aunt Yvonne. You can imagine my surprise as I read her name. Also glad to hear that Kirby is still alive. He attended our daughters wedding some 15 yrs ago. We have always had a loving fondness and respect for Aunt Yvonne. I’m sure Susan, being raised by her, was a great lady. I’m sorry for your loss.

    Bill,
Both Cay and I feel a deep sense of sorrow at Susan's passing.
Both Susan and yourself were for Cay and I great examples of all that is good and faithful. Your dedication to the Gospel and our association during g our time together I the Middle East, left an eternal impression in our lives. Of course, Susan's loving and faithful demeanor made us all the better.

Susan had just told me on the Sunday before her death that she was going to be my ministering teacher. I was so excited to get to know her better, I feel like we could have been great friends. She was such a beautiful lady inside and out. She will be missed...

When ever I spoke with Susan or even just saw her I felt of her sweetness and kindness. It is who she is-full of goodness. Having had the privilege of being taught by her I know of her powerful testimony and love of the Savior Jesus Christ. Truly she is one of the very best. I will miss her very much.

Dear President Buffington, we are sorry to hear this news. You and Sister Buffington were such an important component of our mission. Your wife complimented us one day telling us that we looked like fine representatives of the Church. It was kind of funny too because that day we had made a point to kind of match in the colors we wore. From then on we made it a point when "working" together or at church functions to kind of coordinate. Gary nearly always takes a look at my outfit and then chooses a tie to go with it. She was just always so gentile and gracious. Poised and sweet. I bet she always will be. I kind of have a list of women I would like to be like. Sister Buffington is on that list in company with others such as Sister Hinkley.
Fond memories of both of you. Gary and Nancy Blamires

    Dear Bill,

We are shocked and extremely saddened to learn of Susan’s passing. We have nothing but sweet memories of our wonderful interactions with Susan, while visiting with Aunt Yvonne and the Jackson family. And Susan so resembled her lovely mother in beauty, word and deed! We know they are having such a joyous reunion.

We are so happy that you stopped in College Station to visit with us a few years ago. It was wonderful to meet you and to catch up with Susan again. The two of you are definitely a match made in Heaven.

    Our love,
    Gary and Rhonda Williams

    Dear President Buffington,
Our hearts were so saddened to hear about Sister Buffington. We were so blessed to serve in the same mission with you both and to have you as leaders serving with President and Sister Fenn. You were both such amazing examples to us and everyone. It was a special blessing to get to know you and see the dedication and commitment you have in serving our Heavenly Father. We also enjoyed living in the same apartment building and having dinner together on a lot of the Fast Sundays. You were so fun to be around and a "light" to everyone. We enjoyed hearing of all of your adventures and the great experiences and what life was like while you lived on the Arabian Peninsula. We pray for you to feel peace and comfort from our Savior. We hope you feel our love and the love of everyone that knows you. We are better people for knowing both you and Susan and having your examples in our lives. We love you both very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your beautiful family.

Dear Bill, We are so sad to hear of your loss. Susan and you made our trip to Antarctica so memorable. Enjoying our visits as we ate each evening with Mike and Pauli were the highlights of each day. Learning of your amazing life together was inspiring. Funny at times and full of love. You are the kindest couple and how you cared for one another was an example to us. May you be blessed in all your tomorrows. We will treasure our yesterdays with the two of you! 💕😘

It was a blessing to meet Sister Susan in one of the Sunday services I attended in Utah @ the JS Memorial Building during my vacation sometime in 2016. She approached and recognized me as one of the members in Doha, Qatar, under the Manama Bahrain District, where her husband, President Bill Buffington served as the president at that time. We worshipped in the same building here in Doha sometime ago. We love this couple very much. Their great example and influence to all of us forever linger. On behalf of my family and the Doha Ward saints, we express our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones. It is so comforting to know that families can be together forever. Love to each of you!

Susan was a friend and mentor to me and I will always remember her kindness and willingness to help me become accustomed to life in Doha. We pray for your comfort and strength at this time, knowing that your pain is as deep as your love. May your faith in Jesus Christ and in your eternal covenants sustain you.
