Suzanne Tuttle Miller

Suzanne Tuttle Miller was born on September 21, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kent Elmo Tuttle and Ferdinand Dorrity.

Suzanne was an outstanding student who enjoyed reading and learning throughout her life. She enjoyed participating in Girl Scouts and other activities, and there developed many friendships. She loved walking in “the Avenues” where her family lived, and she retained fond memories of watching Salt Lake City grow. Suzanne fell in love with Gerald Noel Miller who lived nearby. They were married on May 20, 1958, and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Together they began building their life in Salt Lake City. Suzanne and Gerald purchased a home and began welcoming children into their family. Suzanne was determined to establish a “gospel-centered” home; and devoted exceptional time, effort and dedication in creating a firm spiritual foundation for her family. She also shared her love of great music and literature, her sense of humor, and her passion for improvement and achievement.

Suzanne left everything familiar to move with her young family to Toledo, Ohio in support of a new employment opportunity for Gerald. While there she managed a busy home, developed many friendships, and sought numerous opportunities to serve neighbors and friends. Suzanne was grateful when the family was able to return to Salt Lake City three years later. She managed a tight family budget, always seeking ways to ensure the family had resources to support her children’s activities and some memorable family trips and events. Suzanne and Gerald purchased their final home in 1969, wherein they and all their children created innumerable family memories.

Suzanne possessed an enduring testimony of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and loved her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a devoted Primary President and Relief Society President. From a young age, she was continuously known for her wisdom and was often called upon to teach and to serve. Suzanne was also a gifted listener; and spent countless hours offering understanding sympathy, support and encouragement to others in their times of need.

As her children grew and married, Suzanne was thrilled to become a grandmother. She traveled to locations around the country as each grandchild arrived, welcoming each into the family and providing care and support. She enjoyed personal travel as well; and with Gerald had opportunities to tour the Northeastern United States, see the sights of Japan, and visit several European countries as well.

Before marrying, Suzanne had enjoyed working in business and developed excellent skills. She was particularly proud of her stenography abilities, with speeds rivaling those of much more experienced employees. In 1990, Suzanne began working once again, this time as a temporary employee at First Security Bank. She was a quick study and her skills were recognized. Suzanne was quickly hired full-time and promoted to be an Executive Assistant to the CEO. In this role she enjoyed opportunities to meet and interact with community and religious leaders, and to support the continued growth and success of that business.

Suzanne spent many years after her retirement caring for Gerald’s health conditions. She provided tremendous service to him and set an example for her family of love and devotion. In 2020, Suzanne was diagnosed with dementia. Despite her condition, she continued to study and learn, and sought opportunities to spend memorable time with family members. After many bouts with illness, Suzanne passed away on the evening of November 25, 2023. She and the family wish to thank the dedicated caregivers with Utah Home Health and Hospice, and with Escalante at Coventry for their kindness.

Suzanne is survived by her husband, Gerald N. Miller, children Douglas (Noreen) Miller, David (Lisa) Miller, Karen Miller, Kathryn (Darrell) Jones, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a sister Catharine Hatcher and a brother Richard (Meredith) Tuttle. Suzanne is preceded in death by her parents Kent E. and Ferdinand Tuttle, and by a great-granddaughter, Leah KayLin Prince.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 6890 S Whitmore Way, Cottonwood Heights UT beginning at 11:00am Friday December 1st, 2023. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00am. Interment will follow the service at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Millcreek UT.
