Kelly Scott Maudsley

1952 ~ 2015

Kelly Scott Maudsley was born in February of 1952 to Patience K. Jones and William Farrin Maudsley. He had a delightful childhood in Murray and learned the value of hard work at an early age. His parents were dedicated in their service to others and passed that quality on to their son. He attended Granite High School. He made two plays in football- one was a penalty!

In 1971, Kelly was called to the "Great" Australia West Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His experiences there, namely the guidance of his mission president, Richard J. Marshall, shaped the rest of his life. Many of the lessons Dad taught us came from what President Marshall taught him: the importance of caring for your family; getting a good job; being honest; doing your duty; and serving others. Dad was honoured to serve with the highest caliber Elders, many of whom are life-long friends, especially his best friend, Neil LeBaron.

In August of 1974, Kelly married his "Honey Pie," Barbara Olsen, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the picture of happily ever after—always together, always caring for one another.

When asked about his children, Kelly says he got "five of the best." He did everything for us, except what he taught us to do for ourselves. He was at every game, tournament, debate, spelling bee, play, concert, and graduation. He was proud never to have reason to attend an Eagle Court of Honor.

Dad could fix anything and beautifully remodeled our childhood home on the Avenues. He started his own business and, after several challenging years, was able to see it grow and succeed. He was extremely generous with his means, time, and opinions. He was a great cook and loved to feed people.

At age 23, Dad was called to a bishopric. He has served diligently in many callings, always encouraging others to step up and serve. He loved and was faithful in his Home Teaching.

Our family has had the privilege of living among wonderful friends and caring neighbors. Dad said that meant the world to him. He and Mom love the Mueller Park 8th Ward. Moving there was a turning point in their lives. Dad has nothing but praise for the High Priest Group there. Thank you, Brethren!

The family wishes to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute, Utah Gastroenterology, and IHC Home Health and Hospice for taking good care of our Dad.

Kelly is survived by his dear wife, Barbara, his five children, Adelaide Maudsley; Hillary (Sean) McChesney; Elizabeth (Casey) Hobson; Andrew J. (Cynthia); and Patrick K. (Katie); 13 of the best grandchildren, and two elder brothers.

Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 11:00 am, Mueller Park 8th Ward, 1320 East 1975 South, Bountiful, Utah 84010. Friends and family may visit prior to the service that morning from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, we know Dad would have preferred donations to the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
