Maralyn Watson Hansen

1934 ~ 2018

Maralyn Beverly Watson Hansen, our loving, caring and cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister left us after a lengthy battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. Who returned to her Father in Heaven on December 28th, 2018.

She was born on September 15, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Castle and Thelma Watson. She was born to a caring and loving family with eight siblings, one sister and seven brothers. She grew up in Sugarhouse where she loved playing in the fields around their house, touch football with her brothers and board games. She attended school at Highland Park Elementary, Irving Jr. High and South High.

Maralyn will be remembered by her family as a scripturist. She faithfully studied the scriptures every day of her life. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and in the Plan of Salvation.

She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many positions, Junior Sunday School, Primary, Sunday School Teacher, Young Women's, Secretary to the Stake President and Stake Patriarch. She served two proselyting missions one to Seattle Washington. The second one to Melbourne Australia in her 70's. She was a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple and faithfully did Family History Work, submitting names until ALS took her ability to speak and write.

Maralyn was always a refined dresser and looked like she walked out of a magazine. She was young looking throughout her life. In fact, many times when Bruce was in High School, people mistook her to be his sister. Maralyn will be remembered by her family as an amazing cook. An avid gardener and loved the outdoors. In fact, some of her fondest memories were going to the canyons for family picnics while growing up.

She loved to go to Hale Theatre and long car rides to see the changing leaves. Bruce and Linda enjoyed two later trips with her to Mount Rushmore and to see Valley Forge as she loved history. One of her favorite trips was with Bruce and Ryan to Virginia where Bruce served his mission. Maralyn always found sweet gifts to give her grandchildren and great grandchildren which always had a special meaning behind them. She was an avid reader and was always up-to-date with world affairs on the News.

Maralyn loved her Only Child, Bruce. He was her whole world and she worked hard to support and raise him providing a wonderful life.

She worked at the Union Bldg. at the University of Utah during college. Then later at IHC for 31 years in different positions but mostly as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Surgeon at the LDS Hospital.

We are grateful she is no longer suffering from the side effects of ALS. It was the hardest thing she ever had to endure but never complained.

She is preceded in death by her parents Castle and Thelma Watson, her brother Ross Watson, Glen Watson, her sister Nona Watson Tanner and baby boy Watson. She is survived by her son Bruce Hansen and his wife Linda H. Hansen, Grandchildren Ryan Hansen (Mollie), Amanda Hansen Weight (Daniel) and Heather Hansen Roy (Zachary). Her great grandchildren, Maelee Roy, Payton Hansen, Deeks Hansen, Gunther Roy, Braxton Hansen and Ava Weight. Also survived by her brothers Merrit Watson (Phyllis), Milton Watson (Donna), Max Watson, and Kay Watson (Sharilyn), brother in law Stan Tanner, and many nieces and nephews.

We want to thank with grateful hearts all the caring nurses and staff at Barton Creek Assisted Living, Hearts of Hospice, Washington Terrace Center and Fairfield Village for their tender care in a difficult time in her life.

Maralyn treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren who made her life rich and full.
