R. John Thompson, age 78, passed away May 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 10, 1940 in Salina, Utah, to George William Thompson and Alice Nelba Flanigan Thompson.
John's family was the most important thing to him. He had a nickname for all his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed restoring Mustangs and was always tinkering around with electronics. John ran his own trucking company and enjoyed fishing and camping.
John is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl Diane Grandstaff Thompson, his wife of 60 years; his daughters Jean, DeeAnn (Craig), Johnna (Robert), Dena (Demar), and Dawn (Cory); 15 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids. Also survived by his brother Clyde (Karen) and sisters Melva (Glen) and Darlene. Preceded in death by a son John Ronald Thompson; his parents; and brothers Bob, Tom and Wayne.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018, 1:00 p.m., at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Friends and family may visit Tuesday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
