Dorothy Jean Anderson

1928 ~ 2015

Dorothy Jean Anderson Anderson, age 87, died of causes incident to age on December 12, 2015, in Cottonwood Heights where she was surrounded by her family.

Jean was born July 12, 1928, in Salt Lake City, to James Evans and Eva Leona Cleverly Anderson. She attended Salt Lake City schools, and in 1945 graduated from South High School where she made lifelong friends. In 1947 she met the love of her life, J. Robert Anderson, on the rim of Bryce Canyon. She was working there as a waitress to fund her college tuition. The day following her graduation from the University of Utah Jean and Bob were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 15, 1949. They were devoted companions for 55 years. Together they made many friends who brought them much joy and blessed their lives.

Jean taught school at Jefferson Elementary before accompanying her husband in his career that took them to Baltimore, MD; Houston and Corpus Christi, TX; Chicago, IL; Traverse City, MI; and Overland Park, KS. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jean gave devoted service wherever called. She was the president of ward Primary organizations, the Young Women's MIA; and served many years in the Relief Society. Jean was always a gracious host and maintained an immaculate home. She loved the beauty of her flower gardens and the birds that visited them. Most of all, Jean loved her family. She was a caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Jean is survived by her three children, Dr. Joseph R. Anderson, Jr. (Bonnie Thomas), of Ogden; Sharlene Lindsay (Bruce Lindsay) of Cottonwood Heights; Barbara DeBry (Robert J. DeBry) of Holladay; a sister, Marian Wertz of Ogden; twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, James Robert (Andy) Anderson.

The family extends deepest thanks to Jean's dear friends for their many kindnesses to her. Thanks also to devoted caregivers and helpers, particularly Dr. Hanadi Farrukh and Sandy March, who enabled her to live independently in her home as she desired until the final week of her life.
