Varnel Limb Parkinson

1934 ~ 2016

Varnel Limb Parkinson "Parky", 81, passed away on March 18, 2016 in Salt Lake City, surrounded by family. He was born on December 27, 1934 in Beaver, Utah to Delmar R. and Verda Limb Parkinson. He was second of ten children. Three months after graduating from Beaver High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Stott in Beaver and two days later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to Salt Lake City where he worked for 30 years with wonderful friends on the Salt Lake City Fire Department. He retired in 1987 as a Battalion Chief.

Varnel was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities: Elders Quorum President, Co. in the Bishopric, High Counselor, Co. in High Priest Group, etc. His favorite was Scoutmaster to over 30 wonderful boys with 16 becoming Eagle Scouts, being on the scout registry for over 40 years. With his wife, he served in the Ireland Dublin Mission 1993-94.

Parky enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, watching the stock market, basketball and football games--"Go Utes!" He loved children and was known as the "Dollar Grandpa" and was a friend to all!

Survived by his wife, Yvonne, and 5 children--Roger (Tammy), Gloria (Brent) Savage, Blair (Lourrie), Cindy (Randy) De Young and Kelly (Pennie), 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, siblings: Revola Branch, Reva Swasey, Gerald and Keith Parkinson, Trena Walker and Mary Koziba.

Preceded in death by his parents, three siblings: Eugene, Ardella Ady and Sharon LeFevre, and grandson--Nicholas Bardsley.

Viewing will be Thursday, March 24th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral held Friday, March 25th at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:30-11:45. All services at the Rose Park Stake Center, 760 North 1200 West in Salt Lake City. Services by Larkin Mortuary.
