Gilbert William Maestas

1925 ~ 2015

Gilbert William Maestas passed away at age 89 on June 13, 2015, with his loving family at his side.

He was born September 7, 1925, in Montrose, Colorado to Luciano Maestas and Marie Felice Martinez.

Upon his graduation from West High School he immediately joined the US Army to serve his country in World War 2, stationed in Pearl Harbor. One of Gil's highlights in his life was when he later returned, in his 70's, to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial Center.

He worked as a lithographer and later retired from Rocky Mountain Bank and Note Co. in 1987. Not able to keep still, he began working part time and was able to work with several of his grandkids, passing on his great work ethics. If not working, Gil could be found sitting in the Treehouse Café sharing coffee and stories with his close friends and family.

Survived by his brother Fred Maestas (Stella), sons Chris Maestas (Kris), Mike Avila (Susan), daughter Teresa Raddon (Ron), and loving Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Without question, all of our lives are better because of Grandpa Gil. We will all miss him, but know he is in a better place.

Mass services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (300 E. 11800 S. Draper) on Thursday, June 18 at 1:00pm and an inichement will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy).
