Terry Donald Powell, age 78, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Murray, Utah, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply.
Born on March 16, 1947, in Price, Utah, Terry was the son of Donald Williams Powell and Doris Elizabeth Jones Powell. He was a patriot who served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, Terry embarked on a dedicated career with Industrial Supply, where he worked for 35 years before his retirement.
On April 30, 1971, Terry married the love of his life, Shelley Polad. Together, they built a life filled with faith, adventure, and laughter. Terry was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, living his life with integrity and devotion.
Terry was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer, loved traveling to new places, and was a steadfast supporter of BYU sports and Utah Jazz basketball. However, nothing brought him more joy than his family. He considered his posterity his greatest accomplishment. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines or spending quiet moments at home, he loved absolutely anything to do with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Shelley Powell; his children, Jeremy (Gretchen) Powell, Nicole Powell, and Nathan (Kris) Powell; his grandchildren, Jessa (Hayden) Sims, Ashlyn Powell, and Loren Powell; and his great-grandchildren, Grace Powell and Luna Sims. He is also survived by his siblings, Greg Powell (Darcy), Steve Powell, Donnette Affleck (Dave), and Barry Powell (Hope).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Doris Powell; his grandson, Austin Powell; and many other cherished friends and family.
Terry will be remembered as a loving husband, a supportive father, a caring brother, a devoted grandfather, and a follower of Jesus Christ who always put his family first.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the Founders Park 8th Ward located 11677 South Grandville Avenue in South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services beginning at Noon. Interment to follow in the Herriman City Cemetery.

TERRY WAS MY COUSIN. AFTER MY DADS DEATH. I WENT TO STAY WITH THE FAMILY FOR A SHORT TIME. I LOST TRACK OF TERRY FOR A LONG TIME BUT A FEW YEARS AGO WE RECONNECTED WHICH WAS SO NICE. I WAS REALLY SHOCKED TO HEAR HE PASSED. TERRY WAS A GREAT GUY FROM WHAT I KNEW OF HIM IN HIS ADULT LIFE. TERRY WAS AWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT OTHERS. HEY TERRY YOU FLY HIGH NOW YOU CROSSED OVER TO THE NEXT CAMP. I KNOW YOU ARE IN HEAVEN WITH YOUR MOM AND DAD. AGAIN, I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
My Uncle Terry can be best described as a kind hearted gentle compassionate individual that cared deeply for his family and was a great father. I remember his love for Cedar Mountain and being with his siblings. As a kid it was fun to watch them bring there love of golf to bull hollow and watch them enjoy Easter. Also it was always fun to have them play a little game of football with us. I enjoyed the time he would let me come to his house to be with my cousins and later in life wanting to know how I was and my family.
You will be missed
Love Ryan Powell
