Nolan Ray Hardcastle

1922 ~ 2013

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Nolan Ray Hardcastle, passed away August 27, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born November 26, 1922 in Sandy, Utah to Albert O. and Sophia Gunderson Hardcastle.

Nolan grew up in Sandy, Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah in 1941. After high school, he was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy, which he joined on December 7, 1942. He served for 3 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was an engineer for Mountain Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1986 after 40 years. Nolan married Mary Marjorie Myers, the love of his life, on December 28, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were happily married for 66 years.

He was a loving and generous man who was a master woodworker, and enjoyed creating wood carvings and furniture for friends and family. Nolan loved to sing, and was a member of a quartet during his service years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nolan is survived by his daughters, Sandra Savas and Heidi Garff; son, Dan Hardcastle (Melinda); daughter-in-laws, Camilla and Carol; brother, Albert O.; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Anthony Mora and Michael Ray; grandson, Tod Aleamoni; his parents and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday, August 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the memorial service at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
