Tom passed away surrounded by family on October 12, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1951, to Joseph and Sarah “Louise” Sloan.
He was a hard working man dedicated to his family. Everything he did was for them. He had a magnetic force that made people gravitate to him. He was a man of many talents.
His first love, other than his family, was music. Tom had a beautiful voice that you could listen to all day. The sound of his voice warmed many hearts and would radiate throughout any musical venue he sang in. Even to this day he is still heard on the radio.
Tom was the lead singer of The Sloan Brothers Band in the late 70’s early 80’s. The Sloan Brothers band hit the billboard charts with a song called “Dime a Dozen”. Two other songs that played in every local radio station were “Trouble in Waco” and “Honky Tonk Downstairs”. The Sloan Brothers performed many years as the house band for the Westerner Club.
In 1990, Tom joined the Easy Going Band. The band played for 20 years every weekend. After that stint he continued singing as a solo entertainer and never stopped singing.
Tom had a special talent, he could hear any song once and immediately be able to sing it as well if not better than the original. He has helped many future singers in recognizing their potential and would support you at any given moment. “What an inspiration he was to all.”
Tom was also a well known pinstriper for over 53 years. He was the man to call to make your vehicle stand out and make it your own. He was also known for his work creating signs and graphics.
He is survived by his wife Lori Sloan, brother David (Kathy) Sloan, and sister Toni (Shawn) Donovan. His four children Tracy (Chel), TJ (Jeanna), Keven (Mary), and Jimmy. He was also a grandfather to 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents Joseph Sloan and Sarah “Louise” Elmer, two brothers James and John Sloan, and sister Sandee Haskell.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT 84092.
