  • With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Toren Earl Doman, on December 19, 2021, at the age of 58.

Toren was born July 25, 1963, in Portland, Oregon, to Earl and Donna Doman, as the oldest of 6 children. He was raised in the small farming community of Woodburn, Oregon and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1980. Toren achieved his Eagle Scout as a young man and graduated with honors in academics and sports.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission in Brisbane, Australia for 2 years. He was a faithful member of the Church and served in many church callings throughout his life. These callings included Sunday School Presidencies, Young Men’s organizations including Scouting, Ward Executive Secretary, High Council Member, Temple Worker, and Bishopric Counselor.

Toren achieved his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, and then earned his Master’s degree in Architecture from The University of Utah. Toren practiced and worked as a Commercial Architect.
Toren was TRUE BLUE! BYU’s #1 fan… He loved taking his kids to BYU sporting events, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and his favorite—football games.

Toren married Cheryl Bagley in June of 1988, in the Manti, Utah Temple. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Samantha, in 1992. Sadly, in March of 1999, Cheryl passed away. In June of 2000, he married Cindy McNiven in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. They were blessed with three more beautiful children, two daughters, Eliza and Lily, and a handsome son, Brock.

Toren is survived by his wife Cindy; his children, Samantha Decker (Jeremy), Eliza, Lily, and Brock; his Mother, Donna and five siblings, Tracee Savas (Jim), Tim (Shirlynn), Tricia Christiansen (Rick), Trent (Jenny), and Tyler (Jamie).

A viewing will be held Wednesday December 22, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 E Dimple Dell Road in Sandy. Services will be held Thursday December 23, 2021 at 10:30 am with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am that morning. Toren will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial located at 4800 N 650 E Provo, Utah.

    Guestbook/Condolences

Working with Toren was always a blessing. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. I want to extend my sympathies to the entire family for this loss.

    - Philip R Percich, Architect

I am one of the admins at CODA Consultants and have never met Toren or anyone else in the family, but my husband and I have prayed for you daily for weeks, and continue to do so. We are deeply saddened by your loss. May the Almighty God bring glory to himself somehow through this and give you comfort through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. May you be surrounded with loved ones and support through this time.

This is very sad news. Toren was one of the first architects that I worked with when I started 22 months ago. It was when covid first appeared. We were in Tallahassee and things were shutting down left and right as States and municipalities tried to cope. From that strange beginning, we did projects together all across the country: From Portland to Boston, from San Diego to Topeka, and many places in between.

We had many an opportunity to have long conversations about our families over a cold beer for me and an ice tea for him. I used to tell him he would be a great bourbon guy because it was just like him: Smooth and warm, with a little bite at the end! He was very proud of his kids and their accomplishments and his face would light up when he talked about them.

Unlike most of us, Toren was true to his faith and truly “walked the walk”. As a LDS, he believed that there are 3 levels of heaven, with the highest being celestial. I’m not Mormon, so I don’t know who gets to make the call of who goes where, but if God asks me for my thoughts, he’s in the “C” suite for sure.

I miss my buddy already. Rest in peace my fiend.

    Cindy and children,
My sincere condolences, Toren was a wonderful person, and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We are members of the Church located in the ward boundaries (Sunset Ridge), but we have only been to Church one time. We have callings at the prison that we fulfill on Saturdays and Sundays. So, we do not know you, nor do you know us. But your situation will likely be difficult. We will add our prayers for you and your family to those of other members of the 7th Ward.

We also know that the Lord awaits all who die to welcome them back into the Heavenly Family. We pray you have that knowledge as well. God bless you and yours.

Toren and I worked together for nearly 8 years and developed a good friendship. His passing hurts me because he was a good friend and colleague. Always true to his faith and his family. He and I enjoyed some genuine adventures travelling around the country. Always enjoyed his company. My best wishes to his family that he loved so dearly. A genuinely good man, very intelligent, and a pleasure to work with. I will truly miss his presence.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss - Toren was my favorite member of our recent bishopric and I often joked with him and we had our annual BYU vs Utah wager for a delightful lunch together afterwards - It didn't really matter who won I was the winner to be in Toren company.

I’m so sorry to read this. Toren was one of my best friends through high school and he made it back from his mission just in time for my wedding. So sad, yet I’m sure he was the best dad ever and I’m fortunate to have spent some great years with him. Prayers and best wishes to the family.

I was saddened to learn of Toren's passing. Toren and I worked together at MHTN, and Denton House Design Studios. and even spent time trying to start our own firm; Architectural 4-site. He is a good friend and was always a calm and informed influence. He also was a talented Architect who worked hard and made a great impression on clients and coworkers. I'm grateful for a knowledge of the plan of happiness and the atoning sacrifice of our Savior

    Dear Doman Family -
We were heartbroken to hear that Toren passed away in December. He worked for us for a short time at our design studio, Denton House, and we thought the world of him. He was a kind, honest and talented architectural designer. We send our love and prayers to your family during this incredibly difficult time.
