In Loving Memory of Trần Thị Thanh Vân – pháp danh Ngọc Thanh

(1932-2025)

A Life of Mindfulness, Compassion, and Peace

On April 13, 2025 (âm lịch 16March2025) – Trần Thị Thanh Vân – pháp danh Ngọc Thanh, took her final breath with grace and awareness that guided her life. She transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by chanting, incense, and the gentle hands of those she loved.

Our cherished mother and grandmother was born in Quy Nhơn, Vietnam, and she was the youngest of 7 children. She spent her adult life serving her community as a nurse/midwife. With the political turmoil in Vietnam, she courageously left her home country by boat with her 5 young children in search for a more peaceful and free life. Her quiet strength and soft smile, inspired us all to live each moment fully and to embrace both joy and sorrow whole heartedly. She is survived by her 5 children and 15 grandchildren.

In her final days, Thanh Vân’s life journey is a gentle reminder that this body may die, but our spirit lives on forever:

This body is not me.

I am not limited by this body.

I am life without boundaries.

I have never been born,

And I have never died.

-Thich Nhat Hanh
