Troy Matthew Maag

1974 ~ 2023

Our most beloved husband, dad, son, brother, nephew, and friend returned home into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, after a courageous battle with cancer on September 3, 2023. Troy was born November 3, 1974, to Paul & Ella Maag in Murray, Utah. His family moved to Hurricane when he was 4 years old, where he grew up on the family farm and had a wonderful childhood. He learned to be a hard worker and to be able to fix just about anything. He made many friends, but his best friends were his family. He graduated from Hurricane High School then served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Macon Georgia Mission. After his mission, he married and was blessed to be a stepfather to McKenzie. He was later blessed with 3 of his own children, Jacob, Matthew & Ellie. He later was divorced and that is when he adopted the cutest little dog and his new best friend Gizmo.

After a time, he was truly blessed to find the love of his life, Claudia Cabezas. They were married on November 20, 2021, and he was blessed again to gain 2 new stepchildren, Giovanni & Bianka.

Troy was an incredible person, definitely one of a kind. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t do. Since he was a kid, he would grab a book and learn the many skills he acquired through his life. He built a house from the ground up, he knew how to drive any kind of vehicle, he worked hard to get an education and got a master’s degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed farming and his last project was fixing his beautiful yard. If there is one hobby, he was very passionate about, it was fishing! He got his love from fishing from his dad Paul and his fondest memories were when he would go fishing with his family. But his greatest treasure on earth was definitely his family!!! He loved his children with all his heart. They were his biggest treasure, and he was so proud of them. He was the best stepfather for all his stepchildren and always treated them like they were his own. And he loved his wife with a love so pure that it was incredible to see.

Near the end he didn’t want to leave his precious family, but he was at peace. He knew his Heavenly Father needed him to come home, and he knew that his family would be okay because they had each other. He had a strong testimony of the plan of salvation and trusted in his Heavenly Father. Troy was a wonderful person, and he will be missed by everyone that knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Claudia of Riverton, his six wonderful children: McKenzie (Nathan), Matthew, Jacob (Hannah), Ellie, Giovanni, and Bianka. His Father Paul B Maag, siblings: Paul (I’ann), Mark (Susan), Lisa (Tracey) and Jason; his in-laws: Enrique Cabezas and Manuela Cabezas, brothers-in-law: Gonzalo (Marcela), Juan Jose (Marisol), and Alvaro (Maya); his many aunts, uncles, cousins; and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his dear mom Ella Jelene Stratton Maag whom we know he had a joyous reunion with, his grandparents Thelmer and Thelma Stratton & Harold & Velma Maag.

A special thanks to all the many family, friends, neighbors and ward members who helped us through this difficult time. A huge thanks to his wonderful employers from Royce Industries for whom he worked for 15 years.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 9, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Riverton 16th Ward Chapel 1208 W 12400 S Riverton UT. I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Troy for 20 + years, he was a great man and a great friend. He was such a kind and gentle person, with a beautiful soul, and he dearly loved his family. I had the pleasure of going fishing with him and his family many times and he was one of the greatest fisherman I have ever seen. I am going to miss you a lot , as everyone who knew you will. Prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Truly a man of peace and integrity.
I considered him a close friend, co-worker, and mentor, reminded me so much of my grandfather, nary an ill word about or to anyone whether they deserved it or not.
A true peacemaker, and man of peace and humility. Treated everyone with love and respect.
I am so glad he had found a loving partner, and I know he lived for his children and thier success.
I feel honored to have had a few moments in eternity that I was blessed to share with him.

Wanting to send condolences and support at this difficult time. Our family appreciated the support and energy he provided to them while they danced at the studio. He was a silent hero. For those left behind it is hard and we send our prayers to you. The Powell Family
