Obituary

Our dad, Troy Fred Moss, passed away at the age of 54, and we are still trying to find the words to describe what it feels like to lose him.

If you knew our dad, you knew he was a goofball. He was silly, fun, kind, and always wanted to have a good time. He loved to laugh, make people laugh, and find the good in things, even when life wasn't easy. He was the kind of person who would do anything for someone else, and he always seemed to have a smile on his face. He had a free spirit and a way of living life that was completely his own.

Dad taught us more than he probably ever realized. He taught us the importance of working hard, staying positive, and treating people with kindness. He showed us that no matter what life throws your way, you can always try to find the good in it. He believed in enjoying life, helping others, and not taking everything so seriously. Those are lessons that will stay with us long after the memories of these days begin to fade.

Some of our favorite memories with Dad are the simple ones. Riding dirt bikes out in the desert, riding three-wheelers at the cabin, laughing, and just spending time together. Those moments might have seemed ordinary at the time, but they are the kinds of memories that mean so much more now. They remind us of the fun we had, the freedom of being together, and the moments we wish we could go back and experience just one more time.

Dad loved the simple things in life. He loved old movies, classic music, collecting little trinkets, making friends wherever he went, and, of course, going to the gas station to get treats. He loved a slow, simple life—the kind of life that doesn't seem to exist much anymore. He didn't need a whole lot to be happy. Sometimes the smallest things brought him the most joy, and that was part of what made him so special.

One of the sweetest things about Dad was the way he shared his love with his granddaughter, Everleigh. The two of them would trade trinkets, sharing their little treasures with each other. To anyone else, they might have just been little objects, but to them, they were something special. Those little trades were such a perfect reflection of Dad: his love for collecting things, his playful spirit, and the joy he found in sharing even the smallest things with the people he loved. We will always treasure the thought of those moments between them.

More than anything, Dad loved his family. He loved his kids and his granddaughter. We hope he knew just how much he meant to us and how much of a place he will always have in our hearts. There is something about losing your dad that makes you wish you could go back and have just a little more time. One more conversation, one more laugh, one more ordinary day together. We would give anything for a few more of those moments.

Our dad was a free spirit who wanted to enjoy the time he had, love the people close to him, and have a little fun along the way. He made friends, collected his little treasures, enjoyed his favorite music and movies, and found happiness in everyday moments. He reminded us that a good life doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's about working hard, being kind, laughing often, and appreciating the little things.

Dad leaves behind his two children, Aleksi and Mckay; his beloved granddaughter, Everleigh; his brother, Mike; and other family members and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

He is now reunited with his mom and dad, Shirley and Mont, and his siblings Scott, Lori, Heidi, and Kevin, who went before him.

We wish we had more time with you, Dad. We wish things could be different, and we wish we didn't have to say goodbye so soon. But we are grateful for the memories, the lessons you taught us, the laughs, the adventures, and the little moments that made you who you were. We will carry those things with us, and we will make sure Everleigh knows about the man her grandpa was and how much he loved her.

We hope wherever you are, life is simple, your favorite old movies are playing, your music is on, there's a desert to ride through, three-wheelers waiting at the cabin, and a gas station nearby where you can grab yourself a treat. And we hope there are plenty of little treasures to collect and trade.

We love you, Dad. We will miss your smile, your silliness, your big heart, and all the little things that made you our dad. Thank you for the lessons, the memories, the adventures, and the love. You will always be a part of us, and we will carry you with us for the rest of our lives.

We find comfort in knowing that you are free now, free from the physical and emotional pain you carried, and free to let your spirit go wherever it takes you. Whenever we hear “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, we will think of you and remember the free spirit you always were.

“Cause I'm as free as a bird now And this bird you cannot change.”

Until we see you again, Dad. We love you. Fly free.

I've been blessed to have a select group of best friends in my life, and Troy is definitely one of them. Troy and I worked together for decades and hung out just as much. I met him when I was just 8 years old when he started dating my sister. He always let me go on their dates with them. Troy had one of the biggest hearts you could ever meet. I love him so so much and will always miss him.

I love you Troy! Thank you for being in my life, you made it better!

Having lived next to Troy growing up, I have so many fond memories of him. It was always a pleasure talking with him. We would talk about all sorts of things, share laughs, and just enjoy shooting the breeze.

As I got older and started doing more DIY projects around my own house, I would often pick his brain about painting, asking him for tips and tricks from his years of experience. He was always great to talk to and willing to share what he knew.

One memory that will always make me smile is how much Troy enjoyed watching our fireworks. He would always make sure to water his lawn beforehand so we did not accidentally catch it on fire. It was just one of those little things about him that I will always remember.

Troy was a great guy, and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. I will miss our conversations, the laughs, and simply having him around. I know how much he was loved by his family and friends, and he will certainly be missed.

Rest easy, Troy. Thanks for the memories and all the good conversations over the years. Be free, my friend.

It’s been too many years since I saw your sweet, smiling face. I felt like your other mother. Interestingly I was just thinking of you last week and wished you were doing well . You are one of those people who come into your life, leave foot prints on your heart and you are never ever the same. I never forgot you . Love you Troy Boy💔♥️💔♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️

So many great memories of Troy when we were in high school together. Racing around in his Dad's Ford truck in the summer evenings. Telling our parents we were off to the dollar movies and you can imagine what we were really up to. I only remember getting into alot of trouble one time which is amazing for all the crazy stuff we did together. I still laugh thinking about that night it was so much fun and worth it. We also had a good time when we painted together joking about Brad and Bruce. You will be missed my old friend. Thanks for all the great memories!

Bruce & Pam Avery

I first met Troy when he was three years old. He had the reddest hair, biggest blue eyes and was the cutest little boy ever. I was dating his brother Scott at the time and he would bring Troy to see me at work carrying him on his shoulders, he took him everywhere. I have so may fond memories of him growing up. I went on a family vacation to California when he was about 4 yrs old and Scott and I would try to coax him to come ride with us in the trailer by telling him we had his favorite doll Mikey but it never worked because Mikey was always by his side. I know you are having a wonderful reunion with your Mom, Dad and siblings.

My sweet son in law, Troy Moss was a huge factor in our lives.
He worked alongside us, with Makay as partners in our Painting Company, from the time McKay was just a teenager. We all together accomplished so many
Perfect projects. So many general contractors said they would never use anyone else.
My name is Bruce Avery, his father in law, and happy to be so close, to him all our lives.
In the last couple weeks, we again became very close.
We love his sweet daughter, ALEKSI & his son McKay, soooo much.
We love, preciously, his granddaughter, our great granddaughter, Everleigh. We are so close.
I remember our trips together, where his grandma, Pam Avery, my wife ❤️, would prepare lunches, for all, as he raced on his motorcycle, along with McKay on dirt track motocross events in the desert, Soooo much fun.
We enjoyed his parents also at their cabin, above Midway Utah.
We will miss him, more than we can even imagine. We grieve terribly, However, our happy memories, hopefully, will be enhanced.
We wish His Blessings to be with all family and friends.
Troy, we will meet again, I promise. DAD

My brother, my friend. I can not believe that you are gone. I am writing this with your picture next to me and it breaks my heart. So many shared memories but the ones that stick out is the love you shared for my boys. They felt the love so much and so did I. Another one is you sneaking candy behind Adams back to give to his girls coining the nickname Uncle Candy. Jordana and I made your birthday cake when she was just little and she was smiling when I added extra sugar for her. Going to the cabin and having you spend hours heating up water so no one would have a cold bath. Later in the evening we would have a costume party. The eats were always a feast. We will forever to Troyisms in honor of you. "It will feel better when it stops hurting", "I can't say Chimley", "my butt itches". Till we meet again.
