James Grant Stringham

1928 ~ 2017

James Grant Stringham passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2017 of causes incident to age. Grant was born the treasured only child to John Grant Stringham and Isabelle Armstrong Stringham on June 1, 1928 in Salt Lake City. He grew up in the avenues area, and attended East High School where he served as editor of the year book and ran track. He attended the University of Utah and affiliated with the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon graduation, Grant attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and subsequently completed a residency in Pediatrics at Children's Memorial Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. He returned to Salt Lake City where he practiced Pediatrics for many years and was devoted to his patients.

Grant was an active member of the LDS Church, and served a full-time proselyting mission to Hawaii at a time when the Hawaiian Islands were relatively primitive. He was able to master the original Hawaiian language and gained a deep love for the Polynesian people. Grant was married for time and all eternity to Edna Jean (Teddy) Cannon in the Salt Lake Temple on August 10, 1954.

Grant approached life with a cheerful attitude and a big smile. He loved the out of doors, and enjoyed many diverse hobbies which included hunting, fishing, boating, and especially flying his trusty 3366C Beechcraft Bonanza. He loved being with his family and friends during these outings, and had the gift of making these trips fun and filled with laughter. He will be greatly missed.

Grant is survived by his wife Teddy and his children, Anne (Craig) Earl of Sandy UT, James (Liz) Stringham and John (Lisa) Stringham both of Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Grant was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Paige Earl, and his great-grandson Christopher Groscost.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Silipa Mahe, Cody Colledge, and other care givers, for their loving care that allowed Grant to remain in his home during the last years of his life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:30 am at the Parleys Third Ward, 2625 East Stringham Avenue (2295 South), Salt Lake City. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, or at the ward at 10:30 am prior to the funeral.
