Veldon Ray McBride

1939 ~ 2016

Veldon Ray (Bud) McBride,76, our loving big hearted brother, uncle, husband and friend passed away with a sigh and a smile after ordering a T-Bone Steak for breakfast on Sunday morning, March 20, 2016. Veldon is the son of Ray Ashby and Aurelia Nielsen McBride. He attended school in Tooele, Utah and graduated from high school in 1958. He married Letha McBride and they had a daughter Aurelia Mae (Amme) who preceded him in death in 2009. He later married Colleen K. Glenn in May 1975.

He was employed as a Specialist Equipment Refurbisher for the Tooele Ordinance Depot from 1959 to his retirement. He loved life and pursued many interests. He was a talented artist, pianist, leather and pottery worker. He had a great love of animals, especially his cats, Ninny, a wild orphan mustang that we fed on a bottle and lots of little dogs that he catered to in his later years.

Veldon and the family spent many summers living and working on the GP Bar Ranch, at the headwaters of the Green River in Cora, Wyoming, where our father and mother worked caring for the family, crew and dudes including many movie stars and the owners of CBS and Maytag and the breeders of the Tennessee Walking Horses. Many Indian (Cherokee) young men also worked on the ranch and Bud and his siblings spent many happy hours riding horses and fishing in the Green River and the many lakes in the heart of the glaciers in the Bridger Wilderness.

Veldon loved having Dutch oven dinners out to Little Valley with Grandpa and Grandma Nielsen and all the cousins on all the summer holidays we were in Utah near Vernon, Utah and up at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. These ovens were always filled with leg of lamb and all the trimmings like Grandpa Alma used to fix out at his sheep camp. Veldon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife Colleen K. Glenn, his brother James (Elisabeth) McBride and sister, Janice Irene Duff, special niece Susan Senzel, and six nephews, especially Phillip (Frances) Duff, one grandnephew, Tala Reid Brown, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 ‚11:45 am Wednesday, March 23, 2016. The funeral will commence at 12:00 pm at the West Jordan River 4th Ward Chapel at 1385 West 6785 South. The interment will be in Cora, Wyoming.
