Anne Jex Benson

1954 ~ 2018

Anne Elizabeth Jex Benson, our sweet wife, mom and sister, after a tough battle with brain cancer, returned home to her Heavenly Father, and was reunited with her precious daughter Melissa after passing away peacefully at her home on January 27, 2018.

Anne was born on September 23, 1954 to Frank Bird and Hermoine Tracy Jex. She grew up on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City, graduated from West High in 1972 and then went on to graduate from the University of Utah in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. On September 24, 1979, Anne married her sweetheart Robert Dean Benson for time and all of eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Anne followed in her parent's footsteps and taught school for 33 years at Edgemont Elementary. She was a dedicated teacher, and went above and beyond in supporting her students. Anne had great patience for those that needed special care, tailoring her teaching to help them keep up with the other students. She bought socks and shoes for less-privileged students, and was admired by her coworkers for all of her hard work. Anne's loving, sweet and selfless spirit will be missed.

Anne had a great fondness for the outdoors. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty and grandeur of the mountains. Swimming, boating, biking, backpacking and hiking brought joy in her life.

We will forever remember Anne's devotion and love as a mother, wife, and sister. Anne loved her children more than anything, and did everything to ensure they succeeded in life. Her passion for teaching went beyond the classroom where she helped her children learn and grow. She was so proud as a mother to see all of her children graduate from college. Anne supported her children in all their extracurricular endeavors; she never missed a game or performance. She lived her life serving others, and Anne truly touched the hearts of all those around her.

Anne is survived by her husband Robert of 38 years, sons, Jeffrey, Daniel and wife Marissa, and daughter Laura, brothers, David, Paul (Jeannie) and Richard (Catherine). She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hermoine, and daughter Melissa.
