  • Ursula Elfriede Augat Black passed away in her sleep December 8, 2021. She was born in Tilsit, East Prussia to Fritz and Berta Augat on July 27, 1935.

Her family left East Prussia for Germany where she lived until she met and married Marion Black. She moved with Marion to the United States where she learned the English language, and became a wonderful example to their family and friends. She and Marion had four children and were stalwart members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held many callings in the church, but her favorite was that of Relief Society President. She enjoyed serving the sisters of her ward and planning socials, especially ward Christmas parties. She enjoyed becoming a grandma at a young age, but later felt that becoming the mother of a grandpa made her seem old.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her daughters Renate and Carmen, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Diane (Bruce) and her son Ron (Andrea), her brother Heinz (Ute), 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Our joy for her in being reunited with
our dad and our two sisters exceeds our sorrow at her passing.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 11th at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Friends and family can attend a viewing at the same location beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Ursula is an elect lady and she has received her Celestial Transfer. I love you dear friend and will always remember you, your husband, Marion, and the wonderful examples you both were to me in our Monument Park 6th Ward as a Relief Society President and Marion as a great Bishop. Until we meet again, God be with you, dear Ursula.

We want you and Andrea to know how sorry we are about the passing of your mother, Ron. We did not see this until this evening. What an interesting life she has had. Coming to America and learning a language. Leaving her homeland and making a new life here. As I look at her picture, she looks like she was a happy person and full of life. I am sure she was a great Relief Society President and worked hard at doing the things that she needed to do. I am sure the sisters loved her also. She raised a great son and we are so glad that your family moved to our ward. You are such a good family and always serving others.

    Sincerely, Kent and Sharon Smith
