Our beloved husband and father, Nathaniel Casey Bowen, 70, of Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home March 2, 2014. He was born July 26, 1943 in Portland, Oregon to Thann Dee and Rose Dubravac Bowen. Nat married his loving and devoted wife Inga Ross Spendlove in 1986. He graduated from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada and served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1966 to 1968. He earned a Master's Degree in Industrial Technology from Brigham Young University where he was featured on the cover of the 1963 BYU Banyan yearbook. Nat also appeared as a cowboy in several episodes of the TV series "The Monroes." His career included working in engineering and management positions at Kennecott for 17 years, 9 years in engineering and management at Hercules Aerospace, completing his career by teaching Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Technology at Taylorsville and Hunter High Schools, and at Salt Lake Community College.
He is survived by his wife Inga, his two sons: Casey (Jennifer) Bowen and Jonathan (Amanda) Bowen, and daughters Jocelyn Spendlove, Laurie Bowen and Cynthia Bowen, sisters Gloria (Paul) Miller and Nancy (Andrew) Tadie, and 12 grandchildren, who were the delight of his life. He is also survived by Uncle Val and many cousins and nieces and nephews, his lifelong friends Rod, Jack, and cousin Ron who he considered his brothers. He was preceded in death by both parents.
Nat tried to make the "science of happiness" the goal of his life, leaving those he met feeling happier. He had an incredible memory, a great sense of humor, and the ability to tell stories that were rich with life lessons, family values, and wisdom. He enjoyed traveling and seeing the world and learning of other cultures. Nat had compassion for the under privileged and unfortunate. He built homes for his family and parents close by, and enjoyed making elaborate dinners for them and friends. He loved the mountains, hunting, wildlife, and especially his beloved dogs. While our hearts are broken, we are comforted that he is now free of pain and reunited with his beloved father and mother.The family expresses gratitude for the attentive care from Dr. Barclay Bigelow and his staff during many difficult years.
Private family services were held March 8, 2014, at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.
