Val Dean Hickman

1932 ~ 2022

Val Dean Hickman, age 89, passed away June 24, 2022 in Taylorsville, Utah. He was born October 3, 1932 in Spring Canyon, Utah, to William Ernest Hickman and Fern Young Hickman.

Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating Murray High School in 1950, he went into the Navy and served during the Korean War.

He went on to marry Karma Irene Jones and had six children. Later, they were divorced.

He married Pauline Marie Valentine in 1994. He has always been fascinated with old cars and trucks, but when he was retired his favorite hobby was wood working. He was very passionate about it and if you knew him, you were probably gifted one of his many projects or clocks that he made. He always did a great job and had fun doing it.

He loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends, but through his entire life, he was an avid sports fan.
Most of all he loved his Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ, along with his family, extended families and his friends. He received his temple blessings in May of 2022. He’s always had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Val is survived by his children Steve Hickman, Jim Hickman (Shirley), Linda Stevenson (Jimmy), Jay Hickman (Stephanie), Valerie Howell, Bonnie Jenson (Todd); step daughter Karla Poulter (Todd); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents; brother Grant Hickman; and wives Karma and Pauline.

A public viewing will be held Friday, July 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 PM.

Guestbook/Condolences

Dear Val, the day you planned to go through the temple, you ask me if I would be there and I did..
That was an exciting day for you as well as myself as I have not been through temple for quite sometime..
You also told me that you were ready to go and be with your beautiful wife on the other side, you did your endowments and be sealed to your wife Pauline in one week..
I know you were tired and you knew your were going to leave soon.
We talked about that and I also told you, that I should not be sad the day you would leave us and you said “no I should not be sad and you thanked me for being there”
Now that u are gone, I’m sad, but in a good way, I know this is what u wanted..
Val I will miss u and u will always have a special place in my heart!
Till we meet again, you told me you would watch over me and I believe that..
My condolences to your children, especially Jim and Jay, much love to all of you, your dad was very special ♥️🙏🏼🥹
