  • Viktor Mikhailovich Braginskiy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, age 84, left for his next great adventure on August 15, 2021, surrounded by his family, after a brief fight with cancer.

Born August 18, 1936, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, he married his wife, Nataliya, almost 60 years ago.

Viktor was an avid sportsman, an accomplished alpinist, and loved skiing, both on snow and on water. One of his favorite experiences was skiing in the rugged Caucasus Mountains; he also enjoyed kayaking and scuba diving with his wife. Being skilled with his hands, he designed and built his own dacha, his summer cabin, on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia.

Viktor was a very talented chess player and taught his daughters and grandchildren how to master the game. While living in America, he dedicated himself to his granddaughters, teaching them how to ski and understand advanced math, and helping them progress rapidly in their tennis playing skills. He worked tirelessly to bring out the best in them. Viktor also loved attending his granddaughters’ sporting and school events.

Viktor had a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a BS degree in Electronics. He had many technical articles featured in trade journals and enjoyed creating better versions of existing sporting and woodworking equipment. While living in Salt Lake City, he served as an instructor of mathematics at Salt Lake Community College, a position he held for many years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Yulia (Alexander) and Elizaveta (Alan); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a nephew; and many others who love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother.

A viewing will be held at 2:00 pm, followed by graveside services at 3:00 pm, on August 21, 2021, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to PAN Foundation in memory of Viktor Braginskiy.
