  • Virginia Ruth Cutler Boogert passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021. She was born August 9, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Milton Weiler Cutler and Ruth Evans Cutler. She was the middle child and only daughter, growing up on C Street and 7th Avenue (now the front doors of the LDS Hospital). She graduated from East High School and the University of Utah (Ki-Yi) majoring in Home Economics with an emphasis in clothing and textiles.

In 1949, a handsome, young Dutchman and his family moved into the home next door. Marinus and Virginia developed a dancing friendship and romance, being married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on July 20, 1951. Together they made a wonderful life of over 70 years while raising Jann, Kent, and Kevin; their oldest son, Kim, died in childbirth.

Virginia was a talented homemaker, seamstress, knitter, organizer, hostess, entertainer, and party planner. She loved people, and people loved her. If you were her friend, you were her friend forever. She was involved in many groups and organizations, most often serving on boards of directors and in leadership capacities. A few of these include Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Days of 47 (Royalty Chair), Saturday Luncheon Group, Jump Jazz Group, Dutch Fireside Group, The Temple Group, and many neighborhood luncheon groups. Never a week went by that she didn’t have a social engagement or two or three.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life. She served in multiple ward and stake callings. A most cherished calling was serving with her husband, Marinus, as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake City Temple for over 12 years. Her testimony of the Savior, prayer, priesthood, and temple work were unwavering.

Her greatest legacy is her love for her husband Marinus, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will all miss her. We love you Mom, with it.

She is survived by her husband, Marinus Cornelis Boogert; her younger brother, Roger Milton (Betty) Cutler; her daughter Jann (Robert S.) Lee and their children Bryan (Amelia) Lee, Steven (Laci) Lee; her son Kent (Julie) Boogert and their children, Meika Boogert, Gerrit (Heidi) Boogert, Lisa (Nathan) Carr, Jason (Kimberly) Boogert, Heather Boogert and Bryn Boogert; her son Kevin (Laurie) Boogert and their children, Heidi (Peter) Sundell, Jill Boogert, and Molly (Brandon) Wilde. Oma is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Clara and Clover Carr, Ginny and Vanden Boogert, Nixon and Jackson Sundell, Charlie, Zoey, Kate and Piper Boogert, and Thayne Lee. She is preceded in death by her infant son, Kim Cutler Boogert, and her brother Robert E. (Jewel) Cutler.

Services will be held Saturday, December 18th, 12:00 noon, at the Foothill 2nd Ward (1933 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108), with a viewing 10:45 am – 11:45 am prior to the service.

Recorded services can be watched from the above "Watch Services" button.

    Guestbook/Condolences

Your mother touched so many people with her faith and kindness. I hope it will comfort you to know that others are missing her right along with you, and sending love and prayers your way. I will miss the box of delicious cookies She and Uncle Marinus would send my dad, without fail, during Christmas.

    "With It"

Much Love Scott and all the Cutlers

Dear Dear Ginny!! How we loved her and Marinus! We go way back to San Pedro Ca. and then to C Street where she and her familiy cared for me and baby Shauna while I was so sick. What a marvelous family she was from, and and they all gave a lifetime of service. I can't thank them all enough for their generous lives. My love goes to you Marinus and your wonderful family.
Ginny and I were the same age, and we always remembered each other at Christmas. You were all dear friends.
My love and sympathy to you and yours. Colleen

Please accept my condolences as you grieve for Virginia’s loss. Since my daughter, Amelia Largey, met & married Marius & Virginia’s grandson, Bryan Lee, I have had the opportunity to get to know the Boogerts. Virginia was a vivacious, family oriented matriarch. I know Marius will miss his life’s companion, & am so sorry for your family’s loss. I pray that you will feel the peace & compassion the Savior feels for you as you remember Virginia.

I’ve been missing Virginia for a while, since the pandemic, but now I’ll miss her until it’s time for me to go. She was such a special friend! We had great times at Lunch Bunch, talking over the avenues days, and the wonderful lives we’ve been able to have at this time! It’s a different world ,now. It’s time to go! Love you! ⭐️🥰

I'm so sorry to hear of Virginia's passing. I'm grateful for Virginia's gift of friendship over the years. How we would save each others seats in Sunday School and Relief Society. We got to have our own luncheon group with Lucy Bodily and Jean Thomas once a month, weather and health permitting. Virginia's warmth and wit always charmed us with a response that made us giggle and laugh and have a good time. Marinus and Virginia continued visiting with me every Sunday before Sacrament Meeting long after the visiting programs were retired with a story and a compliment or expression of love for me. Virginia has received her Celestial transfer, but her sweet memory will continue with me until we meet again, but it won't be for a while. I love and miss her, and I want her to remember that!

As a young couple with a 1 year old we moved into a rental home on Redondo Ave. Your sweet mother was so very kind to us. She and your father were just like parents to us and welcomed all from the Ward and neighborhood into their home. Know that we loved her and give our love to Marinus. She was an elect woman!

I knew Virginia in Daughters of the American Revolution; so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful patriotic lady and we enjoyed serving in DAR with her.
