W. Maralyn Holley Beadleson Baird Scott

W. Maralyn Holley Beadleson Baird Scott, Daughter, Sister, Wife and Mother died November 9, 2023 peacefully in her home in Salt Lake with family by her side. Her death was a result of complications from cancer, a disease she had battled bravely for many years. Born July 26, 1933 in Springville, Utah to John Perry Holley and Mildred Spafford.

As a young adult woman, she married Howard J. Beadleson a recently returned veteran of the Korean War. They were blessed with four children. This young family of three boys and one girl moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where the children were raised. Maralyn and Howard divorced in 1975 and Maralyn remained in California for 39 years.

During her children’s adolescence, Maralyn returned to university graduating with “Great Distinction” from San Jose State University as a registered nurse. She subsequently received an academic appointment as an adjunct Clinical Faculty at that University. Desiring further education she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1975 as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mental Health.

Maralyn developed the first “Crisis Intervention” service at Valley Memorial Hospital in Livermore, California where she created the policies and procedures that were ultimately adopted as clinical protocol. The crisis service was developed to assess and define treatment for patients and families in times of crisis. While there she met and married Donald P. Baird. They shared much happiness until his death in 1993.
She accepted an invitation to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Livermore, CA as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. While there she developed the first outpatient program for War Veterans suffering from PTSD.

Always interested in research she was a co-principal investigator in three research studies focused on geriatric issues. Four patient studies were published, which afforded her an opportunity to present the findings to working nurses and other clinicians in the U.S., China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Scotland.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist she established a private practice for several years.

Maralyn retired in 1998 and relocated to Salt Lake City to be near her extended family. While there she met and married Melvin B Scott which brought love and contentment to both of their lives.

Maralyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which was central to her life. She deeply loved the Gospel and the guide it was in her life. She worked in all her callings with zeal and commitment. She had a special love for the Relief Society and Temple Work which were her Balm of Gilead. Maralyn accepted and served as the President of the Relief Society when she was 80 years old.

She is preceded in death by her brother Ronald S. Holley, and sisters Kay Scott, Janet Jensen, Phyllis Black, and sister-in-law Connie Holley. Also preceded by her husbands Howard J. Beadleson, Donald P. Baird and Melvin B. Scott.

She is survived by her children Randall H. Beadleson in San Diego, California, Sandra Weagraff in Mission Viejo, California, Brett H Beadleson in Pattaya, Thailand and Bart A Beadleson in Miramar, Florida. Stepsons Michael and (Linda) Scott in Santa Cruz, California and Steven and (Carol) Scott in Salt Lake City. Grandchildren Kim Byrd, Nick Turner, Kendall Ferreira, Tyler Beadleson and Brandon Beadleson.

Viewing services will be held December 1, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm at the Larkin Mortuary on South Temple. The funeral service will be conducted at 11am on December 2, 2023 at the LDS Chapel 11th Ward located at 951 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. A second viewing will be available at the LDS Chapel from 9:30 am until shortly before the funeral services begin. Maralyn will be buried in the Springville Cemetery next to her husband Donald P Baird. The graveside service will be conducted that same day at 2:30 pm.
