Ray Hue Jewkes

1956 ~ 2016

Ray Hue Jewkes, loving father, son, brother and dear friend returned to his home in Heaven on Nov 3, 2016. He is reunited with his mother, brother, sister and daughter. Ray was born on May 26, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT to Alma Hue Jewkes and Carol Jean Thornton Jewkes. They lived in Kamas, Utah. He was the youngest of four children. He persevered with Spinal Muscular Atrophy his entire life. He succumbed to natural causes from his disability. Ray was a very loving father. His kindness, generosity, and positive example was shared with those around him.

Ray moved to Sandy, UT in 1967 and had many friends in the Old Sandy city area. He attended Jordan High School, graduated, and went on to get his associates degree in accounting from Utah Technical College. He married Leticia Sanchez in 1977 and had 5 children. After their divorce they defied all odds, maintained a close friendship and were one large happy family. He worked for Sandy City for 25 yrs. He enjoyed music, video games, Slot car racing, movies and most of all "free-wheeling" all over the Salt Lake Valley with his wheel chair gang. He was a fanatic Jazz and BYU fan for many years. He loved all sports and was the team manager for 4 years with his dad and coached his sons with the Jordan Football Little League.

Ray never let his disability deter him in anyway. He found ways to play with his children and grandchildren, go out to movies, and wheel around with his friends. He loved to mingle and meet new people. His motto in life was to "Take each day for that day, if you get knocked down, get up and get ready for the next day."

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful believer in the teachings of the gospel. He is survived by his Father Alma H. Jewkes, Sister Alma Jean (Doug) Porcshet, brother Eddie (Edina) Escobedo, Son's: Jeffery(Emily) Jewkes, Paul Jewkes, Daughters: Dania(Vern) Mecham, Valerie(Jessie) Jewkes. Grandchildren: Karson, Mason, Gabriella and Lilyanne. Preceded in death by Carol T Jewkes, T. Lee Jewkes, Marybeth Jewkes-Hodges, and Jacklyn L. Jewkes.

His family appreciates all your thoughts and prayers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11 AM at the Mt. Jordan 3rd ward building, 9050 S. 400 E. Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 11 from 6-8 PM at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy and on Saturday from 9-10:30 AM at the Mt. Jordan 3rd ward prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to his name at the Jordan Credit Union in Sandy.
